Installing extension in HD first then move whole portable ff to flash drive

Submitted by OP4 Latino on January 10, 2006 - 1:04am

Hi, I got a new flash drive and I want to install portable ff and this is what I thought to do

1. Download the zip from this site
2. Unzip it somewhere in HDD (C:)
3. Install extensions because HDD access is faster than Flash drive
4. Move the whole DIR to the flash drive

Can I do that? would it corrupt something?

Thanks

PFF issues on XP

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on January 9, 2006 - 5:17pm

I normally use PFF on a Win2000 machine at work (that does not have regular Firefox installed). It works fine. When I try to use PFF with my thumb drive on any XP machine (that has Firefox on them), it does not start up. When I installed I took the default directory structure and haven't renamed anything. Any suggestions? TIA

Shockwave plug-in blues

Off the bat, I assure you that I have followed the instructions carefully on installing the shockwave plugin...but still I am having no joy. At no point does it give me the option of choosing the browser. Now, shockwave is installed on my laptop but it is not recognized by firefox - only IE. I am running Windows XP.

Any suggestions?

pFF won't load

Submitted by daenyth on January 6, 2006 - 3:41pm

i've had this before, i run the launcher program, and firefox won't load. or, more accurately, when i check the task manager the process is running, but without a window. last time i had no clue why and eventually had to reinstall it to get it working again. this time it happened right after firefox crashed, so i think thats why it happened. im trying a few differant things right now, but does anyone know a way to fix this?

RSS Bookmarks broken with pff

I noticed that Portable Firefox breaks the Live bookmarks. Also there is another problem. I have gmail and i have the google personal page set 2 my homepage
when i startup Firefox it says sign in button, so i click it and my page shows (didn't prompt for username or password) or if i press homepage again my homepage displays properly. It only happens on pFf startup. If i press homepage toolbar button, my google personal page shows up (it does not say sign it).

It is probably a Ff issue but i only use PFf.

Extensions lost when drive letter

Submitted by rwald on January 5, 2006 - 8:32pm

When I installed all of Firefox's extensions, the drive letter of my thumb drive was E:. Now that I'm on a different machine and the drive letter is F:, all of my extensions don't run. They're still in the PortableFirefox\profile\extensions directory; it's just as though Firefox isn't reading the drive letter correctly. Is this a known problem, and what can I do to fix it?

Different kind of Portable Firefox...

Submitted by webwbr on January 5, 2006 - 10:04am

I seem to have one of those slow flash drives [4 BG Sandisk Cruiser Mini] so FireFox is really slow. I'm trying some of the tweaks mentioned in this forum (rebuild/reduce extensions/etc.) but I'm wondering if i can handle this in a different way:

Can I install only a profile on my flash drive so when I plug it into a PC with Firefox already on it I'm good to go, using the program on the PC and the profile on the flash drive?

If I can do this, and someone advises me how, then I'll just use my flash drive profile at the office and keep the program on the flash drive for "emergency uses when I'm at a PC without FireFox.
