How do I secure my firefox profile?

Submitted by Anti on April 26, 2014 - 6:13am

Like many users, I use Xmarks to sync all my bookmarks. If I lose it, anyone who runs my FF portable will be able to visit all my saved websites, and be logged in as me.

I don't have admin rights, so can't use TrueCrypt to protect the drive.

I use SanDisk 'Secure Access' for office documents. But encryption doesn't work well for the portable apps folder; it takes too long to encrypt/decrypt, and the apps don't run from within the container, so you have to then copy everything out and back in.

How does everyone else secure their portable firefox?

Firefox Web Apps

From version 16 Firefox supports installing Web Apps from the Firefox Marketplace, which may break portability.
In contrast to Add-ons, the Apps are installed on Windows as an .exe launcher with its own folder in the Windows program data directory. When installing an app, Firefox also creates a desktop and Start menu shortcut as well as an entry in the list of installed programs.
Will there be a way to make those apps also portable, or is the only way not to use that feature?

Leon

FF28 issues

Submitted by Torq on March 30, 2014 - 11:33am

I recently updated to Firefox 28, and now addons won't install by clicking the "download" button on the addon pages. In order to install addons now I have to right click on the "download" button, copy link URL, and then paste & enter the link in a new tab. Only then will the addon install.

Additionally, the buttons use to say "Add to Firefox" or something along those lines, along with a green button. Now it's simply "Download" with a blue button. Is that a site change, or due to more recent changes in how Firefox portable sees the pages?

Firefox portable History not visible

I sync Firefox History between several PCs and one portable device.

The sync is working just fine but on the portable device I can't SEE the past history (just today's - from when you first click on "History").

So, when I go into "Show all History" there is nothing there. Though on the PC's I can see all the past history OK - including the activity on the portable device.

The problem seems to be peculiar to the portable version of Firefox.

Has anyone else noticed this or have a solution?

Thanks

I lost my flash drive with my portable apps.I have backups of portable firefox and portable thunderbird on my desktop hard drive.I was unable to restore settings to new flash drive installation of firefox. Mozbackup failed to restore files.I would like to try and do it manually.I have read different articles on how this is done.I still must be missing something because when i finish, and open the program it still has the original new empty menu bar. not my old one.My question is 1.) after I open the compressed files. which file holds information from menu bar, folders and passwords.

is mixing FF portable stable and beta(aurora, nightly, ...) dangerous such that by default it is blocked?

Hello,

I read much about FirefoxPortable.ini modification is needed to enable multiple instance of Firefox Portable, but I got surprised when I couldn't run FirefoxPortable Aurora(tried beta, nightly, ...) without AllowMultipleInstances modification. Shouldn't aurora executable itself already define itself as aurora version and "Firefox itself is *DESIGNED* so that you can't start multiple copies with different profiles by default" is not applied in this case? (as they are different firefox versions at all)
