Firefox Portable

Hunting most updated FF Portable that doesn't break flash videos utterly. (this got more ranty and wall of text than I meant to)

Submitted by taosk8r on July 31, 2014 - 1:42pm

Well, I had all the update stuff turned off, and I got an update anyhow.. It makes flash videos skip, take forever to buffer, and the sync is terrible..

Basically the new versions completely broke flash and made me leave my cherished firefox browser for Chrome territory.

Now, I want to go back, but the ESR version just seems REALLY outdated. I'm assuming that's the only option, though, correct?

Firefox Crashes

For some reason Firefox Portable keeps crashing. I just had a clean install, and installed FlashBlock and Speed Dial and now Firefox keeps crashing. On hitting the restart Firefox button it restarts normally but a few seconds later a dialog box pops up and says could not load XPCOM. Then it crashes again.

Update Firefox to 31.0 via about->check update accidentally..

Submitted by hongkongportable on July 23, 2014 - 10:47am

I am using Portable Firefox for web development.

Today i want to upgrade my local installed version Firefox to 31, but i pick the wrong short cut point to portable one and update via about menu.

After restart i know i am doing wrong, but the portable Firefox update success to v31.0 and it work fine.

So what is the negative effect if i do it via about->check update?
Just wonder what the build-in updater actually do to my system? (write registry, leave some file, create another profile etc.)

Firefox Portable 30/31 and Hotfix 20140527.01.3 behavior

Submitted by lagu on July 23, 2014 - 2:56am

Yesterday the Firefox Hotfix got downloaded and installed into my firefox portable.
Normal the installer is incompatible with firefox 30.
With an normal firefox 30 the addon is incompatible.

As i thought it will be a bug in the hotfix i created a bug on bugzilla of mozilla: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1042099

They closed the bug, as the hotfix works correctly and the bug must be in the portable version, that the hotfix doesn't recognize that it is incompatible.

FF30 update from FF28 still causes real problems with add-ons

Having installed FF30port over perfectly well working FF28port configurations with loads of add-ons (esp. language add-ons) for several times I am quite disappointed of what is going on:
- tabs no longer working (close buttons, width, switching between etc.)
- I never liked tabs floating over (!) the underlying tab window and covering parts of the window content
- bottom bar is missing, many of the icons vanished completely
- add-ons are disabled (even FF30 compatible ones!), enabling does not work

Firefox 28 updates to 30 after crash even w/ "never check for updates"

Submitted by MattPort on July 11, 2014 - 1:14am

I run portable firefox installed to my desktop. This is probably not specific to portable but on two occasions [today and 3 1/2 weeks ago] firefox 28 has updated to 30 after a crash. I've had "never check for updates" ticked for some months now, anyone know why this has been happening?

What I've had to do is run a manual bookmark backup from the updated firefox 30, install my most recent browser backup [28], then install that current bookmark backup [I do a lot of bookmarking and cannot afford to lose changes].
