Firefox 25 portable with huge degradation of performance

Submitted by guijarrelson on October 31, 2013 - 4:23am

I updated to Firefox 25 Portable, and I had a huge problem of performance, comparing Firefox 24 Portable and Firefox 25 installed (normal installation).

Firefox 25 Portable take loading pages so long, and It fails where Firefox 24 Portable doesn't.

It could be any problem doing portable app package, that it could be impacted in app performace?

Firefox Profile for Windows & Linux Compatibility

Submitted by tanker on October 24, 2013 - 12:23pm

I am contemplating on switching to Linux on my home system. (My work system is Windows 7.) I'm trying to plan on what adjustments I will have to make by doing so.

I have Firefox portable on a thumb drive that I use between work and home. Are the Firefox profile files (not program) and structure interchangeable between the two versions of Firefox, Windows and Linux?

So I can copy the profile from the thumb drive (Win) to the Firefox profile directory in Linux and Linux to thumb drive?

Thanks.

FireFox+Java Portable not working on Windows XP

Submitted by baja006 on October 21, 2013 - 11:05am

I have a requirement to use FireFox Portable 10.0.3 and Java Portable (version 6 Update 45) for a web app that has these stringent version requirements. On Windows XP (SP3), when a local installation of Java is present, Java in the FireFox portable 10.0.3 and Java Portable 6 Update 45 package does not work. It launches java (I see java.exe in the process table), but it just hangs and does nothing. On Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Window 8 it works fine - just not on Windows XP.

FirefoxPortable.exe stays in the process list

Submitted by data_licker on October 13, 2013 - 10:52am

I've loaded new FF24-portable installer from portableapps.com.
And now the the process "FirefoxPortable.exe" stays in process list together with "firefox.exe".
I believe the FirefoxPortable.exe is just a launcher and should not always stay in memory.
Is this behaviour normal for new (relative new) FF-portable compilations?

PS
My old FF-portable edition did not cause this process to stay always in memory.
May be I have to use the old launcher instead? (just update FF to up to date)

Proxy configuration and ProxyGet not working

Submitted by cvbbulk on September 30, 2013 - 10:00am

I'm trying to use Firefox on a public computer at a Workforce center. Neither Firefox nor the Proxy Get utility will identify the proxy settings. I also do not have access to the Internet Options or Network settings in IE.
Everytime I try to visit a site, I'm asked for a Username/Pass.

However, Chrome Portable does work, and seems to auto-detect the proxy settings without any input from me. But, Chrome also respects the security settings of IE, and will also not allow me to view the details of the proxy settings under Options.

Links to some legacy versions of Firefox portable are incorrect

Submitted by pyrosault on September 28, 2013 - 8:11pm

On the Firefox page (https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable/) under the "Legacy Versions" section, there are links to old versions, but they are incorrect, e.g. for Firefox 3.6.28, it links to https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable/localization#leg..., but only FF v24 is available for download from there.

Flashblock not working with Fx 24

Submitted by PortableDave on September 19, 2013 - 2:24pm

I am finding that the Flashblock 1.5.17 (Phil Chee)extension is not working on the PortableApps version of Firefox 24. The normal local drive version of Firefox is working fine.

I have experimented with changing about:config plugins.click_to_play set to true. But there seems to be no effect.

I have tried more than one portable version in two separate computers & the result is the same.

Has anyone found anything similar?
