How can I confirm safe mode is working?

Submitted by Burma on October 1, 2008 - 8:00pm

I've read that if you create a file named ThunderbirdPortable.ini containing "AdditionalParameters=-safe-mode" and place it in the folder containing ThunderbirdPortable.exe, that Thunderbird will launch in safe mode.

How can I confirm that it is actually running in safe mode? I thought that in safe mode the add-ins would be disabled but it seems like at least one of my add-ins, Virtual Identity, is fully functional. Thanks

[Fixed] Thunderbird Portable 2.0.0.17 Installer Removes GPG

Submitted by Jorge XXXXX on October 1, 2008 - 2:05pm

I've had problems with the Enigmail extension. It says it can not find the gpg executable. I've just updated to TBP 2.0.017 so I go check for the executable and find nothing in the App\gpg directory so reinstalled the gpg for TBP and it solved the problem so I assume that the update has wiped the entire App directory before installing the new one. Is it the right behaivour or is it a bug?

[Fixed] Thunderbird Portable leaves folders behind

Submitted by Bart.S on September 30, 2008 - 5:51am

First, I have no local Thunderbird installation. Second, after using Thunderbird Portable the empty folder $APPDATA\Thunderbird\Profiles\ is left behind.
The code is at the moment:

TheRealEnd:
		${registry::Unload}
		newadvsplash::stop /WAIT
		RMDir "$APPDATA\Mozilla\" ;=== Will only delete if empty (no /r switch)
		RMDir "$APPDATA\Thunderbird\" ;=== Will only delete if empty (no /r switch)

The Folder $APPDATA\Thunderbird\ will never be empty, so the last line is useless.
A solution could be:

TheRealEnd:
		${registry::Unload}

Multiple emails does it require any customization?

I just set up my usb with Thunderbird Mail and am trying to run two seperate email accounts on the one application. I have the first one set up and it runs perfectly. When I have the second one set up I get two messages...
first....Sending of username did not succeed when I click ok it goes away then I get Sending of password did not succeed and asks to retype my password. Back into the loop I go. I know it works and double and triple checked everything. When set up in Outlook express and did a test no problems.

"thunderbird.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

TBird 2.0.0.17 update--hangs program

Submitted by haqkzza on September 29, 2008 - 12:55pm

i just updated to portable tbird 2.0.0.17 by using the portable apps launcher, but the program hangs and i have to use windows task manager to stop the program.

on the windows task manager 'processes' tab, there is a 'thunderbird.exe' running using 90+ CPU and anywhere from 60,000 - 300,000K for Mem Usage. at the same time there is also a thunderbirdportable.exe running under 10 CPU and under 10,000K Mem Usage.

i deleted the portable tbird folder and reinstalled--same thing...

i did not have this issue with the 2.0.0.16 portable tbird...

mails are in the folder but not appearing on TBP

Hi.
I'm just fiddling about with my ThunderbirdPortable and I looked into the files in my "Data\profile\Mail\Local Folders". There are the small .msf files and bigger files wwith the same name. I already learned that the .msf files contain TB's information about the mails in the bigger files. In some of the bigger files I can read old emails I already deleted and I'd like to delete them completely because they need pretty much storage space.
