Use ONE Inbox for PC and MAC Version of Thunderbird Portable

Submitted by franziskus on October 16, 2008 - 12:12pm

Hello everybody!

I've decided to use Thunderbird P.E. (V 2.0.0.17) from an USB-stick from now on.

The Windows version is now running and I immigrated my old Thunderbird account (plus Inbox, adresses etc.) into it.

My laptop is a macbook, I therefore also installed the MAC-Version of Thunderbird P.E.
I would like to be able to use the same account the Windows-Version uses with full access to the e-mails that are already in the Windows-version's inbox.

I'd be very thankful for any hint!

"Sus filtros no funcionan porque el archivo msgFilterRules.dat, que contiene sus filtros, no se puede leer. Se creará un nuevo archivo msgFilterRules.dat y se hará una copia del antiguo en el mismo directorio, llamado rulesbackup.dat en el mismo directorio. "

TRADUCTION :
(( His filters don't goes well because the file msgFilterRules.dat, with the filters in it, cannot be read. It will be create another new file msgFilterRules.dat y will make a copy of the old in the same folder, called rulesbackup.dat in the same folder)

pls disable Thunderbird Portable auto-update or advise

Submitted by jobcello on October 11, 2008 - 6:10pm

Is there any way to disable Thunderbird Portable auto-update from mozilla update servers?

I had just finished installing TBP 2.0.0.16 when I start getting these popups to update to TB 2.0.0.17. I didn't update because of the problems that would cause, I just waited until TBP got updated, but I think this will cause some confusion for a lot of users. If they click 'yes', they will run into problems.

Disabling Email Account

Submitted by behr on October 6, 2008 - 6:39pm

When I click on the Get Mail button, Thunderbird checks all the email accounts.
I have a few email accounts that I want to manually check occasionally.
So, I would like to disable those accounts.

I read that I could do this by creating multiple profiles for the regular Thunderbird.
But, I need to keep multiple profile directories for the portable.

Outlook Express has an option to disable checking particular email account.

Can I do the same with portable Thunderbird?

Thanks.

after deleting messages the same free space on my usb drive

Submitted by sonyboy on October 5, 2008 - 9:25am

So, I have installed portableapps on my usb drive. After installing I have downloaded all my emails from gmail. After this I have created folders in "inbox" because of creating of the filters. After this I have deleted 90% of unnecessary emails, but the free space on the usb drive was the same as before deleting (???). The same space after restart. My USB is in my win system H:/. In H:/portableapps/thunderbirdportable/data/profile/mail/pop.gmail.com/inbox/.. was e.g. "friends.msf" (3kB) and "friends" (640MB)even though I have all the messages in the folder "friends" deleted.

How can I confirm safe mode is working?

Submitted by Burma on October 1, 2008 - 8:00pm

I've read that if you create a file named ThunderbirdPortable.ini containing "AdditionalParameters=-safe-mode" and place it in the folder containing ThunderbirdPortable.exe, that Thunderbird will launch in safe mode.

How can I confirm that it is actually running in safe mode? I thought that in safe mode the add-ins would be disabled but it seems like at least one of my add-ins, Virtual Identity, is fully functional. Thanks
