Thunderbird Portable

Can't install themes and extensions :(

Submitted by HolyMurderer on May 30, 2006 - 3:30pm

Hi there!

My latest portable Thunderbird has a big problem. I cannot install any theme or extension. I use Windows XP Pro SP2, but it happens on all computers I have, even in Linux one, using the profile I use in windows. If I drag & drop, or click install and select xpi or jar file, the theme/extension window remains blank... what can be causing this?

Any idea?

Thanks for your time.

RSS Feeds taking too much space

Submitted by itfanaticus on May 30, 2006 - 1:37pm

What are the steps to take so that my RSS feeds don't take too much space on my thumb drive? Right now, I think they take 34MB (I have 256MB and running out of space).

I had selected the option "delete messages that more than 2 days old", but that didn't affect the footprint it had on my thumb drive.

PGP-Problems

Submitted by martin2 on May 27, 2006 - 6:09pm

Today I have installed PTh+enigmail+GPG 1.5.0.2 on USB/1GB/truecrypt.

Mail works fine. But only without encryption.

1) error: iconv.dll not found. Ok, no problem. iconv.dll downloaded and put to ..\PortableThunderbird\App\gpg - works fine.

2) error: encryption command failed
gpg: skipped : Secure key not found
gpg: signing failed: Secure key not found

I have found no way to solve this problem:
mail@domain.de, pubring.gpg, secring.gpg, trustdb.gpg are all in ..\PortableThunderbird\App\gpg - as described in "gpg_readme.txt".

What should I do?

Thanks, Martin

DomainKey Failure

Submitted by guidojones on May 25, 2006 - 5:29pm

Using TB 1.5.0.2 I can send an email through my server, where it has domain keys sign it. On the receiving side, the keys verify.

Using Portable TB 1.5.0.2 (with and without GPG support) the email is sent, however the DomainKeys fail verification on the receiving side.

I am still working on a way to determine what is different as a visual look at the headers doesn't reveil anything.

Ideas ??

Thanks

- Ken

Follow-Up: Upon further investigation, this is an issue with the domain keys package, and not thunderbird.

Help needed - upgrading to Enigmail/GPG edition

Submitted by walts on May 25, 2006 - 9:57am

I have Portable Thunderbird running on my USB drive, and have Enigmail and GnuPG working fine with it. Problem is, if I take it to any other computer than the one where I originally set it up the GPG stuff doesn't work.

I downloaded the new edition with Enigmail/GPG support, but the directory structure is totally different, and the help.html file does not seem to address the new structure. I need help in importing my mailboxes, address book, and keyrings.

TIA

Walt

"x new messages" appearing when loggin out

Submitted by Macheath_Messer on May 24, 2006 - 3:45pm

Hello all:

I think these portable applications are wonderful! I have tried Thunderbird and Firefox so far, and I'm having a concern with Thunderbird:

I am using this application at a place I am working at for my education. These folks are letting me use their computers, and I thought having a portable application such as Portable Thunderbird would allow me to have access to my school e-mail.

It works great, but when I eject my flash drive and logout, the message "x unread message" appears on the login page.

If there is a way to remove this, I would appreciate learning how to do it. It is embarrassing to me that it appears. I don't want my preceptor thinking I am downloading files onto his computer.

where did mail.dll go in Portable TB 1.5?

Submitted by twnty3svn on May 24, 2006 - 6:15am

Does anyone know where the mail.dll went in Portable TB 1.5? I really want to remove the annoying "-- " divider TB places above all signature.

The topic on mozillazine dating back to Aug 03 display a solution by editing the mail.dll file, however i can't seem to find it. Below is a direct quote from the topic

You can get rid of that if you edit file mail.dll. Change "-- " to " " (three blanks) on ONE place.

I've posted same question on mozillazine, but no response, andy ideas?
