Thunderbird Portable

Suddenly "NO Disk " Error

Submitted by guy.chamberlain on January 11, 2011 - 12:13am

I have read something of similar problems but never a real solution - when I load TB and a couple of other apps, I get the error "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert disk into drive \Device\Harddisk4\DR81, options Cancel, Try Again or Continue. As I hit Cancel I get alternating messages which are similar referencing Harddisk5. This only happens on my home PC and only started recently - my work laptop and personal laptop do not do this. The common answer seems to be "live with it" but it is annoying and a lack of fix is irritating.

SMTP problem in Portable Thunderbird when using VNP-connection

Submitted by otto.hanninen on January 5, 2011 - 4:28am

My Thunderbird (3.1.7) works great - except for one thing:

when outside the office I have to use VPN to reach our mail server; works fine for incoming mail, but for some reason the outgoing mail SMTP-server cannot be accessed! We compared this with a stand alone installation of the same Thunderbird version and the SMTP-connection works for colleagues that use standalone version but not in the portable installation. Any ideas for the cause - and any solutions?

3.1.7 Rev 2 Issue : Unable to add more than one account

Submitted by Coswyn on December 30, 2010 - 8:27pm

I installed the app on a thumb drive and added my initial account, which worked fine. Then when I tried adding another it duplicated my original and seemed to tie it into it so that I was not able to get the changes I tried making to the settings to stick. I tried this multiple times (the assisted way and the manual way) and it kept duplicating the default account in place of the new one.

Anyone experiencing this? Any suggested solutions? Would I have been luck with the legacy version?

Thanks.

XUL Runner issue

Submitted by Paul Gauci on December 27, 2010 - 7:13am

I am the same person who wrote the https://portableapps.com/node/26023 entry.

The reason for my downloading TB 3.1.7 Rev2 was that my TB 3.1.4 gave this message when I tried to run it earlier today:

XUL Runner
Error: App: Name not specified in application.ini

As I retained TB 3.1.4 in a separate disk, I can use it instead of TB 3.1.7 Rev2, if someone helps me to resolve the above 'XUL Runner' issue.

Serious installation problem with TB 3.1.7 Rev2

Submitted by Paul Gauci on December 27, 2010 - 6:58am

I have just installed TB 3.1.7 Rev2. When I tried to run it I got this message:

Thunderbird could not install this item because "install.rdf" (provided by the item) is not well-formed or does not exist. Please contact the author about this problem.

I downloaded and installed again but I still got the same result.

What would the problem be please?

Paul

Help!! I am in SERIOUS trouble here!

Submitted by paul.glew on December 26, 2010 - 11:39pm

Summary of set up :

Kingston 8gb USB Thumbdrive running Portable apps
Thunderbird 3.1.7

Summary of problem

OK, so my PC decided to spectacularly crash on Xmas Eve (date not important!), and after a quick reboot of the PC and successful re-start of portable apps and Thunderbird Portable 3.1.7 I noticed ALL of my work emails going back from January this year (2010) are missing.

I have 2 main inboxes :
Work - Collecting mail from work POP server
Home - Collecting mail from personal Gmail

TBP 3.1.7 "Empty Folders" Syndrome

Submitted by Michael Anthony on December 21, 2010 - 2:52am

Ever since upgrading to Thunderbird Portable 3+, I noticed that something goes wrong whenever I plug my memory-stick into an offline machine: Every IMAP folder disappears, and only leaves an empty Inbox.

It does, however, remember which accounts I have installed.

All the mail seems to be present in Data\Profiles.

Deleting the header index files (.msf) doesn't seem to do the trick.

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate (offline machine), and Windows XP SP2 (online machine, internet cafe).

Any ideas?
