Constantly Downloading Entire Mailbox

Submitted by ackerchez on June 24, 2007 - 3:41am

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone else had a problem with Thunderbird portable where the app wants to download the entire mailbox every time the program is opened?

I recently moved to the portable app instead of trying to find different ways to sync mailboxes on multiple computers. However, every time I open Thunderbird for the first time that day it tries to download the entire mailbox (usually some 600 messages). It is almost like the program doesn't remember what it has already downloaded.

Has anyone had this problem?

Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

TB 2.0 RC1: Display error

I have just downloaded TBPortable 2.0 RC1. Generally it is fine. But at the very bottom of the screen (below the on line indicator and Download progress, is a window with some garbled HTML. It reads:

<menu id="offlineMenuItem"insertAfter="trashMenuSeparator" label="&offlineMenu.label;" accesskey="offlineMenu.accesskey;">
----^

Where the pointing caret appears to point to the very first <

Full header details appear when forwarding an email

Submitted by kroeti666 on June 21, 2007 - 11:03am

Hello & nice to meet you!

I am having an issue with forwarding emails. Whenever I use the forward option, the full email header details are copied into the mail. This happens no matter whether the VIEW->HEADER option is set to full or normal. Does anybody know how to stop this from happening? The normal 4 or 5 lines of header would be fine, but not the 50-line extended header info. Forwarding ist set to "inline" by the way.

I have had some hints in this thread on the TB support forums, but was unable to get a solution:

1.5.0.12 / newmsg / security risk

Submitted by v4ixapdbm on June 20, 2007 - 5:34pm

I have discovered that, while downloading new messages, there is a file "newmsg" that is saved on the hard drive in the local user's temp directory (\Documents and Settings\[user]\Local Settings\Temp\). It seems to be a placeholder for the current message being downloaded. When the message is downloaded, "newmsg" is removed and apparently imported into the Thunderbird mailbox. then, "newmsg" is recreated for the next incoming message. I have opened up the "newmsg" file in Notepad, and it is the full e-mail, headers and all!

Missing Emails

This has happened a couple of times now, but I have opened Thunderbird 2 (updated now to 2.0.0.4) and have found that I have one months worth of emails missing.

Is it possible to recover this emails? These emails are very important to my work, and I need to be able to read them.

Latest and Greatest Thunderbird Portable version is?

Submitted by geodog on June 18, 2007 - 2:20am

I've gotten confused with all the references to Thunderbird Portable v2 Release Candidates and Betas. What is the link for the latest and greatest Thunderbird Portable. Is it Thunderbird_Portable_2.0.0.0_PRERELEASE2_en-us.paf.exe, found at http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=151395&package_id=..., and released on 4/20/2007? Or is there a later version somewhere?

Thanks,
Geodog

Autoupdated and all data gone!

My copy of Thunderbird autoupdated to 2.0.0.4 and I chose to install the update after starting the next time. Well when I opened Thunderbird again, it installed the update and all data appears to be gone. Now I have a backup at home, but I am at work now. I downloaded a new copy and put it on a new thumbdrive and attempted to copy over my data file, which looks to still have all my info in it, but I get an error message that prefs.js is corrupted and connot be copied, which ends the process altogether. Is it possible to recover my seemingly lost data?

Thunderbird Portable 2.0 Beta 2 almost perfect.

Submitted by invasion on June 15, 2007 - 1:16am

Hello and thank you all for all these portable apps.

Thunderbird Portable 2.0 Beta 2 works almost perfectly. The only problem is that it creates a folder named "Thunderbird" in C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Thunderbird. I also connected my USB stick to other computers and the same thing, that folder is automatically created.
