Setting PTB as default on Vista

Submitted by YukonRob on April 26, 2007 - 4:54pm

I use PTB as my email client (from a USB Key) to have access to TB on both a laptop and desktop, depending where I am. I would like to have the right click - send to - mail recipient use PTB on Vista but it doesn't appear in any program defaults list (and there doesn't seem to be anyway to choose a program not traditionally installed) Anyone know a workaround? Can I install TB and then modify some settings so that it looks for PTB?

Cheers,
Rob

header info displayed in subject area

I deleted the files outlined in the "upgrading to TB2b2" thread, and that got rid of the entry at the bottom, but in the subject area, all the header information is displayed, which often makes it impossible to read the message without minimizing the subject area.
Note: I upgraded using the stable distribution from mozilla.com.

Installed TBP 2.0 RC1 and it won't load

Submitted by julieu89 on April 25, 2007 - 8:49am

Hi-
I installed TBP 2.0 yesterday on my drive. I have a 1 GB PNY Attache. When I attempt to launch it from my drive, nothing happens.
Thunderbird.exe shows up in my task list however I see no other signs of it running. I've tried ending the process & relaunching, I've uninstalled the previous versions that were on my harddrive, I've reinstalled it to no avail.

I can run it from my home computer (it takes forever to load) but at work I am stuck.

I am on a novell network with virusscan & I am an administrator on my computer...

Any ideas?

My account and old emails just dissappeared

Can someone help me?

Everything was fine, I quit the program and then removed the USB stick. Next time my account and everything else was gone. The account wizard came up and wanted to create a new account.

I have done nothing myself to do any backups, but there is some files (about 500MB) in a folder on the USB stick that I think has to do with Thunderbird.

I tried "open saved messages" but I'm not sure I did it right. How do I get my profile back and my sent/inbox??

Anyone??

ThunderbirdPortable command line arguments?

Submitted by sgp on April 23, 2007 - 6:21pm

Before I installed TBPortable.exe, on my PC .eml files were associated with the standard TB.exe. When I switched to the portable version I changed the association to launch the TB.exe file inside the TBPortable\App folder. However, that association didn't work well, because it launched TB.exe outside of its portable environment, so TB ended up running with an incomplete profile. So I reassociated .eml files with TBPortable.exe. That fixed the incomplete profile issue but introduced a new problem.

thinderbird 2.0 profile transfer

Submitted by crusader27529 on April 23, 2007 - 10:10am

I've thunderbird 2.0.0.3 (I think, but it's the most current on the web site), and when I copied my profile to my memory key, everything works OK, except my inbox (and any other email directories) didn't have current data. There was lots of emails, but nothing newer than October.

Looking at the profile(s) on the PC, the dates on the files & directories correspond with the October date of the last email I see.

I searched the entire PC, and didn't find any other 'inbox' stuff other than in the profile directory.

Help with mailing lists

Submitted by JeffNeedle on April 22, 2007 - 9:01pm

Hello. I have a question, and I hope someone can help me.

I'm using Portable Tbird on an WinXP SR2 system. I have just imported a list of 30 names into the address book. A new list was created -- it has the folder icon to the left of the book. What I really wanted to do was to import the data into a mailing list beneath the Personal Address Book. I will be sending posts to this list as a bcc: so that users won't see the names of others on the list.

Can't move e-mails

Submitted by hornakapopolis on April 21, 2007 - 5:43pm

It seems that every time I move an e-mail out of one of my accounts' inboxes into any of the Local Folders folders, the message gets deleted.

I have 6 accounts. 3 have their own inbox and 3 use the "Global Inbox." They were all initially configured that way. I have filters setup for the 3 "Global Inbox" to direct them into their own folders. (Those folders are in "Local Folders," too.) If I send mail, they are filtered correctly and show up. But once they are dragged (or moved through the context menu) they disappear.
