TBP - how to check if virus scanner is working?

Submitted by jessejazza on March 24, 2007 - 11:28pm

I found that TBP seems to work fine. I use AVG as a virus scanner and as it downloads mail so quickly i'm wondering if it is scanning for viruses. How can one be sure - AVG used to leave a printed message at the base of each email which i don't get anymore.

Virus scanning used to slow up downloading mail even with broadband.

thanks

Downloading IMAP folder content for offline use, but *not* syncronizing

Submitted by MDL on March 23, 2007 - 2:34pm

Is it possible to use PTB in IMAP mode, download all content for offline use, but *not* have it syncronize? (ie - delete from PTB any emails that have been deleted from the server?)

I have users who normally use webmail, and have created multiple folders and filters via the web interface. Now they would like to archive to PTB, and then remove the original emails from the server *without* deleting them from PTB as well.

Thunderbird PE doesn't see my profile when I move the drive

I am at a loss as to what to do here. I have found some threads on this issue but am still stuck. The email and settings etc are all stored in the default locations. The profile settings say this:

[ThunderbirdPortableSettings]
LastProfileDirectory=G:\PortableApps\ThunderbirdPortable\Data\profile
AgreedToLicense=YES

Thunderbird Portable not closing completely?

Submitted by dnaranjor on March 21, 2007 - 3:51pm

I am shutting down Thunderbird Portable and then trying to safely remove the USB device. Even though I wait until the light has stopped blinking, frequently it won't let me safely remove it!

Also, when I insert back my USB device again, Thunderbird Portable have corrupted and all my mail are gone!

I suspect that Thunderbird Portable and/or another app is not closing completely so Windows XP is not capable of safely finish all its operations on the drive.

Can anybody help me with this?

TBP with yahoo

Submitted by jessejazza on March 21, 2007 - 4:53am

After carefully reading
https://portableapps.com/support/thunderbird_portable#recommended

I still haven't been able to get TBP working with my yahoo account. I tried it with my inbox.com email address and it worked fine.

I noticed some people in a posting said it doesn't need the extension yahoo-1-1-16.xpi. Was this for standard yahoo webmail or the PLUS! account. With/without xpi i don't seem to be able to get it to work.

Can't Send E-Mail

Submitted by sierra3 on March 21, 2007 - 12:59am

I'm having trouble setting up my Roadrunner account through Thunderbird on my thumb drive. I can receive mail fine. When I try to send mail I get an error message:
Relaying denied. IP name lookup failed. Please verify that your e-mail address is correct in your mail preferences and try again.

I've double checked the smtp server. The status box shows connected to the smtp account when the error shows up. Anybody have an idea to fix this most frustrating problem?

Problem with local profile import

Submitted by googelybear on March 20, 2007 - 2:05pm

I want to use my local tb profile & mails in tb portable, therefore I copied prefs.js, abook.mab and the ImapMail/Mail foders to the tb portable profile folder (before starting it the 1st time). But when I start tb from my removeable drive it will still use the local profile (instead of the one on the usb drive). I noticed that in prefs.js absoulte paths are used (e.g. for .server.serverN.directory) and they still point to the local mail folders. So here's my question: How can I set them correctly? If I just use "\\ImapMail\\...." it will create a mail folder in the documents & settings dir.
