Issue Moving Thunderbird to External Drive

Submitted by bobyorke on April 21, 2017 - 2:12pm

Hi and thanks for reading this.

My wife and I have both used TB for years - mine as Portable TB on an external drive and hers as regular TB on her C drive. With her SSD getting full-ish, I decided to move her over to Portable TB on an external drive, but I've hit a problem.

I installed Portable TB on the drive and it ran fine, so I copied her original profile to the external drive, and again, no problem. TB fired up and I could see her existing email, and downloaded 20-odd new messages.

How to move from Portable Thunderbird to regular?

Submitted by Winfried on April 5, 2017 - 8:38am

Hello,

I'm surprised this article includes no information on how to migrate from Portable Thunderbird to the regular version, although there must be enough users out there who would like to do just this after trying it out safely through the Portable version.

Thunderbird unexpected DLLs message

Submitted by gmacm on March 16, 2017 - 2:55pm

One or more unexpected DLL files were found in the same directory as K:\PortableApps\ThunderbirdPortable\ThunderbirdPortable.exe. This could be an indication of a covert attempt to hijack the application using DLL injection. Please check the application before using it.
I have Kaspersky and Malware scanned the directory with a negative result.
What do I do next since I cannot load Thunderrbird.

Version 45.6.0?

Submitted by skyteddy on January 1, 2017 - 11:19am

Hello,

actually I use the latest version ThunderbirdPortable_45.5.1_English.paf.exe. For the "normal" TB, the version 45.6.0 is available.

Can I use the build-in-update-function to update the PortableTB to 45.6.0 or I have to wait for ThunderbirdPortable_45.6.0_English.paf.exe?

I'm not sure, if the instructions shown here https://portableapps.com/support/thunderbird_portable#upgrading are still up to date?

happy computing

Cannot receive Mail

Submitted by ghainz on December 30, 2016 - 4:31am

Hello,
I am using thunderbird portable for years and it worked fine until yesterday.
I got a new PC, Dell Latitude 5570, Win7 Pro, and wanted to get my mail using the stick.
But neither receiving nor sending worked.
All mailboxes are pop3.
After changing the port and authentication for the smtp server I could at least send messages.
Receiving does not work though I tried different parameters. I can access the mailbox via webmail.
The provider says everything is ok with those mailboxes.

Does TBP profile forcefully need to be under TBP install directory?

Submitted by verbage on December 20, 2016 - 2:18pm

Hi all,

I am a long-time Thunderbird user (normal version, not portable version), and have always kept my Thunderbird (TB) profile segregated on a dedicated data drive vs. on the regular system drive under my Windows user profile. For example, whereas a default TB install would put one's profile under "C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\default.???\", I have always pointed it to "D:\My E-mail Profile\" where I've kept my profile for easy backup.
