Updating GPG_for_Thunderbird_Portable

Submitted by ArthurL on March 5, 2011 - 10:53am

I have seen and used GPG for portable Thunderbird for awhile now via GPG_for_Thunderbird_Portable_1.4.11.paf.exe

Upon the GnuPG site they list GPG 2.0 being available and supporting OpenPGP (enigmail) but only as source code.

So I looked into Gpg4win which is free and open source which aim of Gpg4win is to keep a Windows installation package up-to-date including the crypto software GnuPG.

Problem with ThunderbirdPortable.ini file

Submitted by marcmontu on February 27, 2011 - 7:32am

I've just download Thunderbird Portable and tried to set up some configuration on ThunderbirdPortable.ini file, as usual with portableApps applications (in special disabling the Splash Screen).

But it turned out that the .ini file provided with Thunderbird Portable 3.1.7 Rev 2 on ThunderbirdPortable\Data\settings\ThunderbirdPortableSettings.ini wasn't working:

[ThunderbirdPortableSettings]
AgreedToLicense=YES

local installation about to start then peters out

I had copied my usb thunderbird portable to the harddrive, it is in the user directory. I just copied the PortableApps folder so it sits next to the Documents/Downloads/Pictures/Videos/etc folders that are there for users.

I click on thunderbirdportable.exe and spalsh comes up, and it shows ups in task manager, and then thunderbird.exe shows up and then thunderbird.exe goes away, and then thunderbirdportable.exe goes away.

use system proxy settings in portable thunderbird

Submitted by etellier on February 16, 2011 - 7:05pm

Good day, im using portableapps at work, we are on a secure lan with an exchange server, i have no way to find our proxy settings and info, however, firefox is good enough and have a "use system proxy settings" that works well, however, thunderbird lacks that nice functionnality, is there an update for thunderbird to add this functionnality in it, else, i wont be able to use at all. i intend to use it to check my home mail, which are from a normal pop server.

Incompatibility when running on Win7 vs WinXP?

Submitted by dmachmeier on February 10, 2011 - 2:21pm

On a Win7 Box
- USB thumb drive
- download and install Portable Apps Platform (1.6.1)
- downloaded and installed newest version of Thunderbird Portable (3.1.7. rev2)
- Configured my email accounts(imap) using the Win7 machine and accessed my mail.
- All portable apps work fine including TB portable.

On a Win XP
- Take same USB drive to XP SP2 box
- Startup Portable Apps Menu - works fine.
- Try starting TB portable. Will not open email and email accounts.
- Other portable apps work on XP.

Take USB drive back to Win7 machine
- Startup Portable Apps Menu - works fine.

mouse timing

Submitted by patrick013 on February 3, 2011 - 8:10pm

Hi,

Is there any way to lengthen the mouse double-click timing
setting inside TBird. The computer is set for 1000ms but
TBird is set much smaller and it is a little hard to open
messages to a new tab.

thx.

Watched Newsgroup threads

Submitted by patrick013 on February 3, 2011 - 8:06pm

Hi,

Is there any way besides stars to watch a newsgroup thread, perhaps placing
a sync'd copy in the newsgroup local folders area till expired and/or saved there as well. Windows Live Mail does this and it sure would be handy if I could
find where TBird has that feature for usenet.

thx.

Lightning linking to google

Submitted by thewrightgeeks on February 2, 2011 - 3:58pm

If i install thunderbird and its plugin lightning does this allow the facility to connect to google calendar. Reading on the web an additional plugin is required.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/provider-for-google-c...

My goal is that i can sync with my phone by adding into Lightning and using google as a transport.

Thanks
