Traces of App Usage - WinXP - TB 5

Submitted by Ybourret on August 5, 2011 - 1:20pm

My understanding of PortableApps, is to have access to your personal tools and files without leaving traces of them on the machine being used (confidential reasons).

I would like to point out that I have noticed traces of Thunderbird on WinXP under %username% settings.

I haven't completed a full analysis to determine if other Apps leave traces and if this is due to settings in the Apps. Nor have I yet to provide possible locations of these traces and to what extent they can be manipulated.

Some tuning may be required on the Application or PortableApps.

Thunderbird not starting

Submitted by slibbe on August 5, 2011 - 7:18am

Since yesterday I get the following error when starting ThunderbirdPortable:
http://test2.slibbe.org/XUL%20Runner.png

This is on various Windows 7 laptops, and current Pre-Release 2.1 PortableApps Platform, either running form hard drive or USB microSD card.

Anybody else having the same problem and any ideas how to fix this?

Greets,

slibbe

[solved] TB5 upgrade woes

Submitted by Tom Sullivan on July 24, 2011 - 7:29pm

After upgrading to TBP 5, I can no longer access my existing profile. I've checked prefs.js and it seems just like it was before, with all my mail account and newsgroup information. Just in case, I copied over a backup of prefs.js and it made no difference whatsoever. I also restored from a backup I'd taken with MozBackup, again no change. I've also done a complete disk check and it has shown no problems.

Can´t access some mailboxes after v5.0 upgrade

Submitted by JonathanL on July 18, 2011 - 4:45am

I was recently invited by Thunderbird to upgrade to v5.0 (from within the app). I selected this option, believing that with portable apps this is generally okay, i.e. it will not mess up the portable nature of the app.

I am now not able to access the mailboxes on certain servers (GoDaddy Europe). It asks for the password and seems to accept it, but no emails are downloaded. This is using an IMAP server and none of the settings seems to have changed when upgrading to v5.0

I still have access to a mailbox on another server and that is working fine.
