newsblog.jar file spoiling installation on USB

Submitted by meet6669 on January 29, 2009 - 1:08pm

I have been trying without success to install the portable version of Thunderbird on to my Kingston 4GB Data traveler USB drive and when it comes to the newsblog.jar file, this weird message that says the file cannot be written pops up and cancels the whole process. I would really appreciate any help.

Info on ThunderbirdPortable.ini should be easier to find on web page and help files

Submitted by piotr.dobrogost on January 28, 2009 - 3:21pm

Hi

I'd like to say that ThunderbirdPortable.ini is not only helpful when running TBP from read-only memory. Because of this it deserves much better place in help than it currently has.

Placing any data (mail and profile data in this case) in a subfolder of program folder is just not right. Especially when there is already Documents folder created by default when installing PortableMenu... But to move mail to its proper location (underneath Documents folder) one has to get know ThunderbirdPortable.ini...

gmail timeout

Submitted by galwayguy on January 28, 2009 - 12:09pm

I have Gmail set up correctly with pop enabled, every time I try to download
emails it get 2 or 3 emails and then stops till it times out. If I close it and open it again it will download another 2 emails and again time out.
My settings are correct as I have tried them with a couple of other portable email clients and they downloaded no problem.

Free/opensource Thunderbird Windows Mobile sync solutions?

Submitted by PollieXmas on January 27, 2009 - 10:02am

Hi Guys,

I'm again in a position where I'm unable to sync my calendar and contacts between my desktop and windows mobile phone and was hoping that someone here has a slick solution that would work for someone that's tired of fiddling to get things working...

I used to use active sync to keep my phone in sync with Outlook and would then occasionally export my contacts manually and tried to stop using calendar, but that was obviously not the best solution.

Fix for TB not opening from platform

Submitted by Miles on January 23, 2009 - 7:49pm

On your TB page it is said:

Sometimes, certain profiles will cause the launcher to fail or hang. In that case, start from scratch and try just copying your mailstores (Mail and ImapMail directories) as well as your prefs.js and abook.mab files. unquote

Installed and twice tried to open TB from the portable platform and it wouldn't go. Feared I would have to delete all and start over. However, quickly discovered that it would start if clicked on the TBPortable.exe. And thereafter it continues to start using the platform.

Message Filterse Not Saved

Submitted by floydpink on January 23, 2009 - 1:40am

When I create a message filter they are never saved so when I look in the Filter list it has disappeared.
I've checked the Data\profile\Mail sub folders and a msgFilterRules.dat file is created but is blank.
Occasionally, the message rule is saved in the file, but does not appear in the Message Filters list box the next time TBird runs. Despite not being in the list the rule runs automatically when downloading email!
Any ideas what's going on!

(Tbird 2.0.0.18, TBird Portable 0.9)

I've worked out what's going on.

Sudden Hotmail problem

Submitted by Frank1 on January 20, 2009 - 12:40am

I am using TBP V2.0.0.19 on Windows XP Pro SP3.

My Hotmail account has been working fine for some time now. Yesterday I got a localhost timeout on my Hotmail account. I moved my USB drive to my other computer, and the same problem there. I logged into my Hotmail account on the web and noticed an email in the inbox. At the time I thought that it must have something to do with the email, so deleted it. TBP then behaved. Today I got another email and TBP had the same timeout. Deleted this too. I sent myself a simple 2 word email and the same timeout occurs.

How to Transfer from OE to TBP?

Submitted by sbolton on January 19, 2009 - 10:34pm

I would like to be able to use Thunderbird Portable on a flash drive. I assume that is workable.

I use Outlook express (I know I should change). Can I transfer all my outlook express emails and contacts to a flash drive if I have Thunderbird Portable?

If so, how do you do it?

Thanks

SB

Internet access from work

Submitted by PaulDavidSumner on January 19, 2009 - 6:47pm

Hello,

to check my e-mails during lunch break I'd much prefer to use portable Thunderbird than clunky Webmail. Portable Thunderbird works fine from home, but at work, it is denied access. To go on the internet at work, I need to supply a work user ID and password that are different from that for my personal e-mail account. The problem is it's not clear within Thunderbird's interface where that extra ID and password should be entered.
