Firefox Portable

Possible Bug

Submitted by Devo on March 6, 2008 - 11:10am

This seems strange, I downloaded the most recent version of PFF (2.0.0.12), installed it and ran it. I navigated away from my homepage messed around a bit and closed PFF. After the program was closed there was a registry entry left (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\mozilla.org) I thought this was strange. I deleted the entry manually and ran PFF again. I just opened it and closed it, I never navigated away from the homepage. Checked the registry again, nothing left. I again ran PFF and navigated away from the homepage, closed it, and checked the registry. Again, the same entry is left.

Firefox Portable & Windows 2000 Pro SP4

Hello Guys,

Need some help on this. I have been using FFP since v2.0.0.2 and have no problems with it, but now that I updated to v2.0.0.12 my PC restarts when attempting to run FFP or even ThunderBird portable from the USB drive. This never happened before on my Win2K machines, only recently. The other Portable Apps installed seem to work normally.

I've done some tests to isolate the cause:

1) Re-formatted the USB drive and re-installed fresh copies of FFP and TBP.
2) Used several PCs (different configurations) to test
3) Used USB hubs (powered and non-powered) to test

Using -no-remote and the nested firefox.exe

Sometimes you want to launch you firefox on a mates computer and he already has it running. Now you might not want to use his if you have certain passwords or extensions saved that will be handy for this session. You also don't want to close down his many tabs. My solution would of been to use the -no-remote flag except the FirefoxPortable binary does not honour it. Instead I use the flag with the nested firefox binary.

Outpost Firewall, Older PC

Firefox 2.0.0.12 works fine.

Firefox 3 Beta 3 works fine.

Firefox 3 Beta 3 Portable

Firefox 2.0.0.12 Portable

Opera USB

don't work.

I've heard it might be a firewall
issue. So, I deleted all ALLOWED
firefox entries and restarted
Firefox Portable - Nothing.

I added Firefox Portable under
the ALLOWED entries - Nothing.

It works fine on a PC at work
and coexists with Firefox 2.0.0.12
and Firefox Portable 3 Beta 3 from
the desktop.
