I was really tempted to make this post a couple days ago, when I really had to get my feet wet with OpenOffice. Used to be, I had MS Office XP on my computer, and OpenOffice was like the "backup". Well, I've decided to make a clean break from MS Office. I almost reinstalled it for my experience with Word and Excel, but I made it work, all the while wanting to say some very unkind words to the developers. But, I cooled off, and would still like to raise some issues I had, in a more civilized manner:

Changing splash screen ?

Submitted by conooo on September 24, 2009 - 2:46am

Hi*,

I want to change the splash screen, which shows when you start te program.

Replacing intro.bmp in the folder /app/program does not help.
(nor any other .bmp/jpg/png that I find in the installation)

Could this be because it is in a customized version of OOoPortable?
Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Why do things show up in Documents - History

Submitted by docsulo on September 7, 2009 - 9:35pm

This might have been answered elsewhere, but I couldn't find an answer.

If portable apps keeps all information on the portable drive then why do documents that I open in Open Office Writer appear in the recent documents section when I hit "start" and "documents?"

Is it supposed to leave this info on the computer I'm using?

problem solved: Writer doesn't remember my font settings.

I've set my default and header font settings a few times from the default Times New Roman to Verdana, and each time, Writer forgets my settings when I open it on another computer. I haven't found any documentation on this.

update: I saved my settings from computer to computer by going to Tools -> Options -> OpenOffice.org Writer and -> Basic Fonts (Western) and just making them all Verdana and decreasing their size by one since Verdana is roughly about a size bigger than most other common fonts such as Times New Roman and especially Arial.

How to convert Word 2007 -> PDF from the command line

Submitted by aceraccoon on August 31, 2009 - 11:28am

I am using the command line to convert word docs to pdf using the PDFConversion module. I am able to convert word 2003 documents fine. For Word 2003 I use the function ConvertWordToPDF. I was wondering if anyone knows how to convert word 2007 docs to pdf. I am assuming I just need to change the function ConvertWordToPDF to an updated one for word 2007? I am using the latest version: OpenOfficePortable_3.1.0_English.paf.exe. I tried it out with the new version and it doesn't work. Does anybody have any suggestions?
