OpenOffice Portable

can't find the lite

I saw a really old version of OO.o on this website in the beta forums and I now use that instead of the supported version that's out there right now. I know that there is AbiWord, but I'm loyal to OO.o and was wondering if John (or somebody else) could create OO.o Portable Lite. I know you used to have Writer and Impress downloads by themselves but its gone now. I literally have 642Kb of free space on my flash drive! (before I downgraded to lite.

Everyone knows you can't work without lite :P.

OpenOffice 3.1 Writer (and more) does not start from USB stick

Submitted by Westender on October 28, 2009 - 6:21pm

Hi there,

something strange happens: on a usb stick of a friend of mine, OpenOffice 3.1 Writer does not start. Even Calc doesn't do so.

There is no splash screen. The only thing you see is in the task manager. There I can see the two processes "soffice.bin" and "soffice.exe", but after a few seconds, they both disappear.

Is there some sort of log file, where I could check, what went wrong? Are there maybe some known incompatibilities, I should have a look for?

Installation error

Submitted by Vikings_MN on October 20, 2009 - 11:14am

Pentium3 850, 448MB ram, XP Home
Downloaded OpenOffice Portable 3.1.0 to the D:\ Partition on my HD.
Verified the MD5
Attempted to install (replacing OpenOffice 2.x version, wanted .docx support)
Install location: 1 gig PNY Attaché USB flash drive.
Other Portable Apps installed: GIMP, ClamWin, Jooleem, KeePass, MPlayer
Free space on PNY is reported by PortableApps launcher as 700MB.

Problem is, installation seems to run fine up to a point, then I get a popup box
with the following error text "Extract: error writing to file bf_xomi.dll"

Multilanguage User Interface for OOOport 3 missing

I would like to switch in OOOport from an English to a foreign language user interface (like Czech, Italian, German etc).

In the OPTIONS - LANGUAGE SETTINGS - LANGUAGES menu the language of user interface only shows English. In the help page one finds: "Select the language used for the user interface, for example menus, dialogs, help files. You must have installed at least one additional language pack or a multi-language version of OpenOffice.org."

I didn't manage to find the proper source of these user interface packages (not spelling etc, that works).

The keyboard mute button does not work when OpenOfficeOrg 3.x+ Portable runs

Submitted by Megafrog on October 5, 2009 - 10:57am

This bug had been happened while using all the Openoffice.org 3.x portable flavors on a Vista 64 SP2 system and a 2007 (or so) Microsoft multimedia keyboard's mute button. I did not try it on any earlier OOo varieties.

Any OOo application disables the keyboard's mute button. A switch to any other application or the desktop (or just clicking volume control in the taskbar) lets the mute button work. I don't use the non-portable OO.o so is this a portable bug or something with the main program?

OO.org 3.1.1 anyone with any information on the portable version?

Hi, guys!

I know PortableApps is something where the people involved won't get much more out of it than the fuzzy warm feeling that they helped to make the (internet-) world a bit better. But I was wondering why there are projects like Firefox or Thunderbird that are maintained on a regular basis while other projects appear to be deserted.

OpenOffice.org seems to be such a project. Version 3.1.1 came out more than a month ago and until now there is not even a beta-version (at least none I can find) or even an announcement that the portable version would be updated as well.
