path settings not usefull for cd-rom-use of OOO

Submitted by mhonline on December 15, 2007 - 5:51pm

hello

more a complaint than a bug, however:

Pathsettings within OOO can not be edited anymore since they use a GUI for the settings.
This is a conceptual problem. Using the OpenOfficePortable.ini for trying to build a CD-Version will not work, as the default path-setting containes the User-name, no good, and it can not be altered to "document.../all users/..." by direct edit.

Some advice available ?

Using OpenOffice.org Portable on Windows NT

Submitted by eresele on December 14, 2007 - 2:05pm

I'm fully aware of that OpenOffice.org is not supported on Windows NT (just like it's not supported on Windows 95). Still, since I read about the existence of a patch for Windows 95 on the OpenOffice.org Portable Support page, I'd like to ask whether someone is aware of a similar patch for Windows NT. If so, I would really appreciate know about that.

Cannot get OpenOffice to use CommonFiles/Java

Submitted by d_mon on December 14, 2007 - 1:03pm

Hi guys,
First of all, I know that people have reported this problem before and I've read ALL the posts regarding this issue. However...it just doesn't recognized the portable java. It needs to be pointed towards it from the "tools-options". The java on my stick is 1.5.0_12 and the one installed on computer is 1.6.0_03.
I did everything that John & others have suggested to the guys that had this problem in the previous posts, but...it just doesn't work for me!What the heck is going on?

Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.
Thanks a lot!

I have downloaded OOO 2.3, install in a hard drive first,
and if install path have spaces, it fails to start (error window).
If install path have no spaces, works fine.

Later, you can move to install path with spaces and remains
working ok.

I posted here because did not find a bug forum.

How to customize where Tools -> Options -> Online Update checks for updates?

Submitted by e2x on December 10, 2007 - 5:21am

A while ago I was prompt for an update. Yet the update agent took me to the official OO site and suggested that I will upgrade to the official latest stable version (2.3). I would like to know that a new official version has been released. Yet I would also like to be told when a new version is avialble at portableApps.com will. In short, how can I customize Tools -> Options -> Online Update to also check a portableApps.com URL? If it is not possible to add a URL, can I replace the current URL with another one?
I don't mind editing a text file.

This was taken from here:
http://pclosmag.com/html/Issues/200711/tips.html

Start Open Office and click on Tools > Options. This should open the configuration. Click on Memory in the left menu and change the following settings:

Number of Steps: 30
Use for Open Office: 128
Memory per Object: 20
Number of Objects: 20

And how to disable java, which I don't recommend for the portableapps install.

I did it, and it works.
