Java uses system path not CommonFiles\Java

Submitted by adbennet on September 17, 2007 - 12:34am

Is portable Java supported yet? I followed the installation instructions and Java seems to be "working" but only from C:\Program Files\Java. The javasettings_Windows_x86.xml is created but OpenOfficePortable.exe doesn't seem to care about its contents. This situation is not truly portable if I use the USB drive on a computer with an older Java installed. Of course I can switch to \CommonFiles\Java but must I repeat this every time I start OpenOffice?

OpenOffice will not start - "Service Manager Not Available"

Submitted by dclong on September 10, 2007 - 6:34pm

Downloaded and installed the standard PortableApps Suite (and -- to ALL you developers: THANK YOU!) on a freshly formatted (therefore, blank) SanDisk Cruzer.

Anyway, got a bunch of error messages upon installation about the install app not being able to create certain output files.

Safely removed the USB key and reinserted it. Besides the OpenOffice apps, all the other once seem to be working okay.

Does anyone know where I can still get OOo 2.1?

Submitted by foxcole on September 6, 2007 - 4:30pm

I run 2.1 portably and will continue to do so until 3.0 is available, because there are simply too many bugs and instabilities in 2.2.1 for my purposes.

But something is screwy with Writer all of a sudden---it won't open files and thinks everything needs to be recovered, and wants me to choose a file filter--- so, after testing with a standard installation of 2.2.1 to make sure there was nothing actually wrong with the files, it appears that I need a fresh copy of the portable version.

Repeated Welcome, License Agreement, etc

Submitted by fergus on September 5, 2007 - 6:51am

According to no pattern that I can discern, I find when starting up Open Office that occasionally I am again shown the Welcome procedure, and have to follow through all the steps of License Agreement, Name, Update preferences, Registration preferences. When OO finally starts, however, things like Options are remembered, as are Recent Documents. I cannot link this reversion to any previous activity, number of uses, or anything. I do not alter or delete anything under Data/settings/ or anything else.

OpenOffice Portable won't start

Submitted by kli1066 on August 29, 2007 - 10:40pm

I install OOo on a thumbdrive using the U3 Launchpad. There appear to be no options for what directory the installation is done in. I have uninstalled/reinstalled three times. I have renamed my drive, being careful to not include spaces in the drive name.

When I try to start OOo, I get the following text in a dialog box:

---------------------------
OpenOffice.org for U3
---------------------------
OpenOffice.org for U3 cannot be started. You may wish to re-install to fix this issue. (ERROR: The program could not be found: \openoffice\program\soffice.exe)

OpenOfficePortable.exe is not showing up in PortableAppsMenu

Submitted by Brenya on August 24, 2007 - 9:51pm

I want to delete every executable from H:\PortableApps\OpenOfficePortable\ except OpenOfficePortable.exe so that only OpenOfficePortable.exe shows up on the PortableAppsMenu. I think it's just a neat and tidy way to handle all the OO applications.

Problem is OpenOfficePortable.exe doesn't show up, even though the executable is in the folder (H:\PortableApps\OpenOfficePortable\)!

Submitted by neanderix on August 22, 2007 - 5:26am

Hello everybody,

a few minutes ago i downloded OO.O-P in the German windows-Wersion and tried to install ist on my USB-Flash-Stick.

But when i press the "install" button i get a message that i have to close any instance of OO.o first - and nothing happens.

How can i get around this?

Zotero Plugin in OOo Portable

Submitted by Zeedok on August 21, 2007 - 5:43am

Can't seem to install this plugin on Portable OOo, though it works fine on local versions (eg Feisty).

I'm able to almost complete installation, but then I get the following error:

com.sun.loader.Python cannot be instantiated

I'm not sure what that means, or what to try next. Anyone thought of trying this yet?
