Do I HAVE to use Portabilizer to get Java functionality?

Submitted by stuartnz on April 18, 2008 - 3:54am

I've been away from Portable Apps for a while, but now that I'm back and excited to give 2.4 a go, I'm wondering if I must use Portabilizer to get the JRE functionality of features like Base. From what I've read here, it seems that Portabilizer is not fully supported, so if I can use the Java features of OO Portable without it, that might be preferable. Thanks!

Could't find Pocket Word nor Pocket Excel Import/Save as. Why?

Submitted by HarryD on April 17, 2008 - 10:39am

A earlier version of OpenOfficePortable supported this PocketWord, PocketExcel and some other file-formats for mobile devices.

But in this new version v2.4 I miss it.

I tried to download/install 'XMergeInstall.jar' (for the installed version of OpenOffice) but it didn't work ...

May someone help me ?

Installer free space calculation wrong?

Simeon's picture
Submitted by Simeon on April 17, 2008 - 6:37am

Could it be that the installer doesn't calculate the free space properly?

I have 168 MB free on my 2gb drive and the old OOO folder is 227mb. The new 2.4 installer says it needs 240.4mb of free space (german version). But as its overwriting a lot of the old OOO files, it should work anyhow but the installer wont let me install because it says it needs 240 mb and I only have 168mb.

Shouldn't it work?
Or am I understanding something wrong?

Openoffice requirement

Submitted by deodion on April 13, 2008 - 11:10am

I have not downloaded it yet, and already look around at the forum,
but i wanna ask 1st, but is the apps require u to have installed java on the PC ?

or all i need is OpenOffice_Portable_2.3.1_Rev_2_en-us.paf.exe alone ?
which i would assume if this last point is correct then i will have the java independently in the openoffice portable folder ??
and no need to disturb my PC ?

thank you,

XMERGESYNC.DLL

hi
i just started using portableapps today and i installed openoffice among about 5 or 6 other apps. i scanned my thumb drive after with avg and it came out clean. i then scanned with superantispyware and it flagged one item:

Trojan.Unclassified-Packed/Suspicious
E:\APPS\OPENOFFICE 2.3.1 R2\APP\OPENOFFICE\PROGRAM\XMERGESYNC.DLL

i was wondering if anyone could confirm if this is a false positive.

printing brochure problems

Submitted by peter.strnad on April 10, 2008 - 5:43am

Hello,

I have problem to print my file as a brochure. I have printer, that prints on both sides, but when I click "print brochure" and have my page set up as a landscape, only half of the page is printed.

It means, that the whole text is printed out in correct direction, but the whole text is fitted only on the upper side of the page.

The same happens when I have my page oriented as a portrait - then it is even worse - two pages are printed on one sheet of paper, leaving three quarters of the page blank.

Will automated update from 2.3.1 to 2.4 still be portable?

Submitted by pwright2 on April 6, 2008 - 7:28pm

My portable copy of 2.3.1 is offering to update to 2.4. If I allow it to do so, will the installation still be portable? Or do I need to wait for a version to appear here?

Thunderbird and Firefox appear to be able to update without losing portability but I haven't tried it with anything else.
