OpenOffice Portable

Automatically opening openoffice.org files with openoffice portable.

Submitted by Sheffey on March 31, 2008 - 3:38pm

Hey I am wondering if there is any way to make cause files on the flash drive to be automatically opened by openoffice portable?
Here is what I mean,
If I create a calc file with openoffice then save the file to my flash drive,
Then take my flash drive to another computer, is there a way to make the computer automatically open the file with openoffice portable if the computer does not have openoffice?

Hopefully that makes sense, if it doesn't I can try to explain better.

Fewer Menu Icons?

Submitted by markuswells on March 6, 2008 - 12:37pm

Is there a way to have fewer Menu Icons in my PortableApps menu for Open Office. I love the Portable apps suite. I came from using u3 and in u3 Open Office only shows as 1 Icon, so I know its possible but after poking around a bunch and searching I can find nothing describing how to do it. I have a LOT of portable apps on my thumb drive and need to clean it up. I would even be happy with a sub-menu.

Any help would be appreciated
Markus

Lite portable OpenOffice anyone?

Submitted by ayub on February 26, 2008 - 6:05am

Hi,
I only use openoffice write application! So all I wanna say is anybody working towards the lite version of openoffice? I mean if I use WRITE it shouldn't be more than 60-70MB (just like photoshop portable versions where 400+ files are compressed into 60MB flat!)
I am sure individual packs of openoffice would help it grow more! What do you think?

OpenOffice sometimes doesn't quit

Submitted by nttuzydupcpm on February 22, 2008 - 12:22pm

I'm finding that when I try to dismount my flash stick, even though I have quit all of the applications and PAM, I cannot dismount, and the reason is that OpenOffice is still running in the background. I only know that because I run Task Manager. From TM I kill OOo, and then I can dismount.

Am I doing something wrong?

OpenOfficePorable CD ini

Submitted by rdagijones on February 21, 2008 - 6:39pm

I am using OpenOfficePorable on a DVD with some documents. I have found and looked at the OpenOfficePortable.ini file that I downloaded from the Support page. I understand that the ini file is to be set to "RunDataLocally=true" so that OpenOfficePortable can run on a CD or DVD. Here's the problem, I need the "Open" button to go, by default to the "Documents" folder on the DVD. Here is what I have done to set up the DVD:
1. I built OpenOffice on a fresh flash drive with SmithTechPortable as the menu application.

OpenOffice 2.3.1r2 Won't Start

Submitted by bitslammer on February 15, 2008 - 8:11am

I'm having issues not being able to startup OpenOffice Portable 2.3.1r2.

I get the splash screen but then nothing. I can see it start in task manager (WinXP SP2), but it just terminates after 3-4 seconds. I've tried reinstalling it twice as well as upgrading to the PortableApps Platform 1.1b4 and still no luck.

Are there any logs or ways for me to garner more info? All my other portable apps work just fine. It's only OOP that is giving me fits.

Windows 98SE Problem

Submitted by BenB on February 13, 2008 - 9:59am

Hi. I’m having a problem installing OpenOffice Writer for use on my old Windows 98SE computer at home. It works great on my office Windows XP machine. Specifically, the menu bar (“File, Edit, View,” etc.) does not appear at all on the Windows 98SE display. From what I’ve read I suspect that I haven’t handled Java correctly, and I don’t know how to do it. Java 1.5 is installed on the local machine. Using the Java Portablizer 1.1 I imported the Java files to the JavaPortablizer folder which was automatically created on the portable device.
