Command Prompt Portable

Submitted by Rexx72 on August 2, 2008 - 4:33am

Ok, so I'm a noob at DOS and cmd.exe stuff (also scripting/programming in general). I'm working on a WinXP machine atm.

Editing the "Command Prompt Portable" .bat inspired me to learn a bit more. Any help with the following will be appreciated. Pointers to specific websites if it's not a quick answer, please. I've searched the forum for about 2 hrs and came up with nothing that helps ... although I found lots of interest... lol

Notepad++ XML Tools Plugin

Submitted by RowanC on July 23, 2008 - 11:20pm

Hey All,

I have notepad++ for a while on my usb key, which is brilliant.

However, now I want to install the XML tools plugin, I don't know where to store the ext_libs dll's.

The xmltool.dll gives me a how to that says I need to install the ext_libs (iconv.dll, libxml2.dll, libxslt.dll, zlib1.dll), which according to the readme on sourceforge should be in the windows or system32 dir's....which I don't have write access to on this PC.

What can I do to get these guys working ?

Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Rowan.

[Fixed] Peazip Portable 2.1

Submitted by Bart.S on July 23, 2008 - 8:31am

Welcome PortableApps.com Wink

I found a little bug.

The settings are stored in the file \PeaZipPortable\App\peazip\res\conf.txt and not in the Data folder.
Solution: Delete this file.

Furthermore the file \PeaZipPortable\App\peazip\res\rnd should be moved to the Data folder, because this file and the conf.txt are changed at the same time.

BTW the file \PeaZipPortable\App\peazip\res\empty.fnd is unnecessary.

GnuCash Ignoring my settings...

Submitted by arizona480 on July 23, 2008 - 6:00am

Using mainly Windows Vista, although, I did play with it on XP beforehand.

Every time I start the program on Vista, it starts as if it is the first run and I have to manually load my data file. I tell it to automatically save data and it still pesters me with all of these windows. When I started it up on Vista, it did ask me if I was an Admin so it could tell the registry????

It did automatically load my data file on the XP computer at work, but why does it act like it's the first time it's ever been run on Vista?

GVim Portable font customization

Submitted by ronh on July 18, 2008 - 2:14pm

Hi there,

I use GVim Portable from http://portablegvim.sourceforge.net/

I enjoy using it with specific fonts that are not windows default, but as far as I know, GVim refers to the system's font folder when you want to choose a font. So I was wondering how can it be made possible to carry your own font inside the usb drive and use it with GVim?

Thanks, ronh

GnuCash worked but now crashes

Submitted by bthomson on July 15, 2008 - 3:20pm

I downloaded GnuCash and ran it on my USB key, setting up a few accounts but not yet entering data. I've tried to run it again and it keeps crashing now. It appears to be gnucash-bin.exe that crashes. Task manager shows GnuCash Portable running, then gnucash-bin.exe and then not one but two copies of gconfd-2.exe. There are 3 error messages:
