Portable Gramps 3.4.8 on Windows XP failure to load

Submitted by dancombs on July 14, 2014 - 8:12am

I setup a family tree in Portable Gramps 3.4.8 using Windows 7 & 8. I sent the program to someone using Windows XP and it refuses to load. I have Windows XP in a virtual machine under Windows 7 and when I attempt to run Portable Gramps, the Gramps Portable splash screen appears briefly but Portable Gramps never finishes loading. The Windows 7 machine has an AMD Athlon dual core 2.2GHZ CPU with 4 GB of RAM. I have tried allocating nearly 2 GB of RAM to the virtual machine, but to no avail. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Infrarecorder Portable Changes System Settings, Hides Desktop Items, etc

Submitted by slickferret on July 9, 2014 - 9:29am

When I run Infrarecorder Portable, it changes my settings to hide my desktop icons, and it sets my laptop to hibernate, even though I require it to be on 24-7. WTF? It's my laptop, if I want it on, and want to see my desktop icons, that is my business!!!

PicPick status on adware, toolbars, etc.

Submitted by christina_a on July 9, 2014 - 12:36am

Hi,
I've used PicPick casually for a while. Generally, I like it. Saw there was an update - 3.34. Is it now considered adware? Does the portable version (here) contain the same types of adware as the installer version?

Reading some user-type reviews, some people are complaining about it trying to change home pages, install toolbars, etc. I guess you have to opt out, not opt in.

[Solved] Blender 2.71 doesn't start

Submitted by Freehunter on July 8, 2014 - 10:36pm

Downloaded the latest Blender 2.71 and did a new install. The PA splash screen comes up and then nothing. Task manager doesn't show anything running. Tried another clean install same thing happened.

I'm running Windows XP Home with Service Pack 2. Blender 2.70 worked!

Downloaded Blender 2.71 again and did two separated clean installs. Neither would get past the PA splash screen. Anybody else having problem with this?

TeamViewer: Another Checksum Problem

Submitted by bobertdos on July 6, 2014 - 4:47pm

I might potentially have found another download issue on MAXCDN. Just as before with Spybot, both downloaded via the autoupdater and the website directly, the file I get from server 108.161.189.161 has the MD5 hash 012ddde3596ac7753d096d44f0fd2d5b which of course mismatches 9f7cbb7c9b12741d225c424c4d027820. Download and installation fails with both methods. As usual, I am hitting the Chicago node.
