2XClient no longer an official portable app?

Submitted by pizzaman on June 16, 2014 - 8:31am

2X Client was available for download on their own website, in stead of this website. However, it is now behind a registration wall. The auto updater gives an error (404) file not found.

I think 2X abused portableapps.com to get people to use it and they're now harassing people into registering, paying, etc. Either way, it's not a free app anymore. Please stop supporting this annoying commercial effort by 2X and remove it from the portable apps.

Why doesn't Skype Portable get closed instantly?

Submitted by lwc on June 13, 2014 - 12:47pm

When I right click Skype's icon and choose to exit it, the icon indeed disappears.
Alas, both Skype Portable and Skype itself still secretly run in the background and take a lot of memory in vain (see screenshot). They only get a closed after a minute or two (or five).
Is this a bug in Skype itself? If so, can you solve it by, say, detecting the exit and force close Skype?

Tested version 6.16.0.105 (currently the latest) in XP SP3.

JPortable

Submitted by Gavin_2 on June 10, 2014 - 2:32am

Hi,
I'm using jportable with my Cygwin portable on my office(which has a lot of restrictions) pc and jportable is trying to access www.java.com and windows firewall is stopping that access resulting failed application launch.

Is there a way to config Jportable to not to access www.java.com ?

Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Gv.

TDSSkiller Startup Crash

Submitted by wquatan on June 5, 2014 - 4:24am

When I try to run the latest TDSSkiller.Portable, it crashes with

P:\PORTAB~1\PORTAB~1\KASPER~1\App\TDSSKI~1\TDSSKI~1.EXE
The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.
CS:1af4 IP:0265 OP:65 63 75 72 69 Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

Weird thing is that first a CMD-window is opened (with nothing in it) and then that error-window pops up.

I tried already

- to disable all Sandbox / Antivirus / Firewall
- to uninstall / reinstall the app

No luck

"File Not Found" Error when downloading Assault Cube via PortableApps.com Launcher's download feature

Submitted by Matthew on June 4, 2014 - 9:26pm

Hello,

I'm receiving a "file not found" error when I try to download Assault Cube using the PortableApps.com Launcher's "download new apps" feature.

EDIT: I was able to download Assault Cube directly from the PortableApps.com website without any issues.

"Missing sprites in Graphics Set" when installing OpenTTD

Submitted by Matthew on June 4, 2014 - 9:03pm

Hello,

I apologize if this has already been brought up, I check the Forums and didn't see it posted:

I just installed OpenTTD Portable (from the PortableApps.com page) and, when I ran it, I received the message "This installation is missing several sprites, please update your Graphics Set".

My question is... how do I do that?

PngOptimizer Portable 64

Submitted by MichaelDW on June 4, 2014 - 3:40pm

When PngOptimizer Portable is launched it runs PngOptimizer64.
The problem is that there is a bug in PngOptimizer64 that causes it to crash on some 64 systems.

Becuse as far as I can tell PngOptimizer (32) run fine regardless of whether the system is 32/64.

I suggest that PngOptimizer Portable become a 32bit only program.

McAfee Stinger behaving badly

Submitted by Wm ... on June 3, 2014 - 8:46pm

I think it is known that McAfee Stinger can behave badly.

I'm saying it *is* behaving badly.

I'm not sure it should be in the stable since it is known to attack itself when implemented as a PA.

Most recently it is post XP. If everyone else is no longer using XP that is fine.

I don't need this App, it was a superfluous check on top of what I already have for viri, malware, etc.
