Installing to a CD-RW

Submitted by prskater on September 5, 2008 - 1:31pm

I'm trying out the portable apps by installing the Suite Lite to a CD-RW (700mb). Yet, when I try to install, a message pops up saying that there is not enough room. I have just reformatted the CD-RW and still I'm unable to install. Is it possible to install to a CD-RW? Thanks

portable apps menu change?

Submitted by mdiviesti on September 5, 2008 - 11:46am

Would it be possible for the next release?

Currently, I have firefox2 and firefox3 installed to portable. On the menu however, both show up "Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition" which is the "product name" at assembly.

Could it be possible that this is changed to read product name only if summery subject is not added? This way, the user can control how it appears on the menu.

Thanks
Mike

Portable Chrome Puts Chrome on Your Thumb Drive (Lifehacker)

Windows only: You've seen its flashy features and were impressed with its speed, and now you wish you could put Google Chrome on your thumb drive and take it with you wherever you go? It's far from official, but German blogger Caschy has put together a portable version of Google Chrome you can run off your thumb drive. Just unzip the download to your thumb drive and run ChromeLoader.exe. All your Chrome settings and profile information now save to your thumb drive.

Automatic HDD->USB->HDD sync tool to speed up apps

Some apps run quite slowly off USB drives, Firefox being a notable example that I use a lot. What I normally do is copy the app to the desktop of the machine I am using, run it and then copy it back to the USB drive when finished.

That way it runs at normal speed, and with Firefox you can even have a disk cache if you set it to clear on exit.

John T. Haller: PortableApps.com Development Test page maintainence

John,

While the PortableApps.com Development Tests page is very useful, Zach Huddock has been having less spare time, and now does not seem to be updating the page at all (other than for Songbird?). I am willing to work on this page to try and keep it up to date with any new programs/releases.

If you think that I would be useful with that, please give me access to change it and I will then feed through all the comments that have stacked up, and then continue to maintain it.
