List of "Launcher Only" releases at the cubegames development wiki

Submitted by BrianAll on June 11, 2008 - 3:56pm

I decided to reorganise the "Current Projects" page on Ryan's development wiki, which some of us use, and I added a section for Launcher only apps. Since the development releases page on PortableApps doesn't have a section for launcher only's, anyone that has released a launcher only app might want to post it here.
I went through the first few pages in the Beta forums and added four apps, just to get it started.

HERE is the list of Launcher-Only releases.

SourceForge.net is performing maintenance today from 11am to 3pm NY time. During this time most of the site will be read-only and logging in is disabled so we won't be able to make any releases. I'm also holding back the story asking people to nomimate us for a 2008 Community Choice Award because that whole system will be offline as well.

Naming Conventions of Pre-Releases, Development Tests and Forum Topics

It seems some people are having issues following the conventions we've been using for development tests and pre-releases, so I'd like to reiterate them for all.

The version of a portable app is always the same as the version of the app being packaged. So if you're packaging Acme 2.5, it's gonna be Acme Portable 2.5.

A Request and a Custom Skin (Blue Palm)

Submitted by DavidH613 on June 10, 2008 - 8:02pm

My Request: I would LOVE for PortableApps to let me customize application names and list order on the main menu. I ask for this because I would like to put my most commonly used programs at the top and I would like to be able to remove "PORTABLE" off the application names (because it seems redundant to have 15 cases of the word on a menu for a program with a big logo saying "PortableApps")

As a Freelance graphic designer I whipped up a skin for myself and decided to make it available to everyone:

Please add 7z and/or zip option for much faster and more reliable download.

These options make the download 4 times faster, and much much more reliable.

It takes 15 Seconds to transfer WinMerge_Portable_2.8.paf.exe across the Internet, then my anti-virus (ESET NOD32 2.7) performs an in-depth investigation with the internet frozen solid (and simultaneous downloads suspended) for a further 40 Seconds before it releases its strangle-hold on the system.

Portable Windows Idea

Submitted by StephenQ on June 8, 2008 - 7:37am

I had a thought the other day about how its possible to make windows portable, and i figured that the only way to do it legally (i think?) is to run it in a virtual machine. Then technically you are only using it on one machine (the virtual one), and the windows validation wont have to be done repetitively since the specs appear the same (the virtual machine ones).
