Urban Terror 4.1 for games

Submitted by kentagg on February 10, 2008 - 2:53pm

The games in portable apps look a little slim, so I got a heavy hitter for you.

Urban Terror 4.1 ( completely free and legal)

Urban Terror is a free multiplayer first person shooter. Unlike old versions, it no longer requires Quake 3; anyone can download it and play for free. Urban Terror is available for windows, linux and macintosh, the current version is 4.1.

DRUPAL WARNING

Submitted by eltonbrad on February 10, 2008 - 12:14am

I don't know if this site uses Drupal, but yesterday, my Mum told me that there is xsomething about Drupal going around that it is doing something illegal and that you can't unsubscribe from anything that Drupal has going. I just thought I'd mention it. I don't know if anyone has mentioned it in any other posts, but I think this is a very serious situation. Does this site use Drupal at all?

Sorry I've repeated this, it is just that I'm not too sure where I should have posted it. I thought I'd make a new topic about it as it is pretty major.

AVG False Positives Again (Feb 9, 2008)

Submitted by John T. Haller on February 9, 2008 - 7:04pm

It looks like AVG is again having issues with detecting false positives in all the apps (or nearly all of them). As usual, we know it's a false positive because other antivirus products (like ClamWin Portable and the online scanners) all register them clean. And, AVG is detecting false positives in months-old releases which it didn't before.

If you're a user of AVG, you should contact their support to fix the issue. Until then, your only real options are:
1. Tell AVG to ignore the errors when it comes up
2. Disable AVG

Autorun half-broken?!

Hey guys,

got 2 identical usb flash drives (both with a 1 GB-chip from samsung)..

One launches PAM perfectly with the default Autorun.inf, the other one _only_ with this content:

[Autorun]
UseAutoPlay=1
shellexecute=PortableApps\PortableAppsMenu\PortableAppsMenu.exe
Action=Start PortableApps
Icon=PortableApps\PortableAppsMenu\PortableAppsMenu.exe
Label=Geode

inside the file.

Although this works great, I got _two_ context menu-entries in Windows Explore if I right-click at the drive's icon stating "AutoPlay"?!

Recommend a Antivirus??

Submitted by Orius on February 9, 2008 - 10:02am

Have been using AVG for about 3 years now with only a few problems. After yesterdays (2.9.08) update several of my portable apps were detected as virus/trojan horse ("Downloader.ZLOB.UAQ). So I decided to try Avast, which seems to be another favorite free AV. But alas Avast also has a bunch of what I am calling false positives. It is picking up some .Exe converted batch files (I made these myself so they would show up on the PA menu) for a few other programs.

Zip versions of portable apps - please!

Submitted by poppy10 on February 9, 2008 - 9:43am

Please please make zip versions of the portable apps available. It shouldn't be too hard as the current "installer" is really just an obfuscated decompresser.

The reasons for wanting a zip version are:
1)Company firewall policies which ban the download of .exe files
2) People are wary about having to run an "installer" when all they want is a non-installed traceless portable version of the product (I know, I know, but the terminology is important). Some people just want to unzip and go.
