I work for uncle and people look over our shoulder
and security is very tight. Can you really surf the
web, listen to a stream, or IM seamlessly without leaving
traces with the thumb drive. (when we delete something
is it really deleted and so on)

Just a suggestion, how about a "Link To Us" page with graphics and "suggested" urls for linking to PortableApps.
I know I've seen similar discussions in the forums but couldn't find them by searching.
I would like to link to PortableApps from my website.
Something like "Looking for software for your USB drive, check out PortableApps.com" along with a logo of button.

I wanted to make a brief post about some attitudes in the forums. Most often this shows up as a harsh post or two directed at a new or less experienced user when they ask a commonly-asked question without searching or request an app with a license that makes it legally impossible for us to package. Sometimes it shows up as some negative comments directed towards someone you disagree with when you're frustrated from having to deal with the former type of user. Other times it's just plain old "having a bad day and posting when you shouldn't".

Can someone help with this problem please.

At work i can plug in my usb and it is recognised as new hardware and installed.

However when i go to my computer i can see the drive.

I have checked the device manager and it is installed ok.

how can i get to see the files on the usb? can anyone help please?

I'm not sure if any of you use this program called Belvedere. It's made by the folks at Lifehacer. It's GPL'ed and apparently portable (for now):

Oay, so here's the deal. My roommate is driving me nuts in that he keeps using my computer and indiscriminately pushing my stuff aside to work on his own stuff, despite the fact that he has a computer of his own.

I can't just password-protect my computer, because that's just too overtly aggressive; I don't wanna cross that line.

Ok... no problems.

What is the best way to lock a USB drive from the onset, i.e. from the VERY moment you plug it in your USB port? A software like Folderlock requires to create a "Locker folder" in which you can put your files but the rest of the data (outside that folder) remains available.

Is there any other solution that would completely deny access to my drive when inserted until a password is entered?

I am not even looking for an encryption solution, but just for a "key" which will lock/unlock my USB drive.

the first thing is that the version is not 1.2.512:... but it is actually Version 1.2.451
