Launch windows app from PApps

Submitted by john errington on March 20, 2024 - 3:11am

I would find it very useful to be able to launch standard windows apps - notepad, calculator etc - directly from the portable apps platform.

I have tried puting a batch file in a named folder inside my portable apps directory, but it doesnt seem to get detected in the platform.

C:\Portable Apps\PortableApps\windows-memtest has this batch file, named memtest.bat
%windir%\system32\MdSched.exe

If I click on it it works so that isnt the problem

Remember the last monitor the Platform was open?

I use 2 monitors and PortableApps keeps opening on the main monitor which I suppose is an ideal situation for most cases. For me though, I want it to open on my 2nd monitor. Moving it and exiting does not seem to save this preference.
If the problem is that "if you bring the USB to a computer with only one monitor, you won't see the menu anymore", then I say just check if there are fewer monitors than before and if so, THEN move it to the main screen. That way accounts for cases like that.

Defender detecting malware in PA.c Platform 29.1.1 updates: Trojan:Script/Wacatac.B!ml

Submitted by wolfferine on February 23, 2024 - 4:22am

Hi,

I don't want to cause any panic - but I am facing the following issue:
Today when I started my PortableApps, and wanted to check for updates I was "greated" with the following error:

Unable to connect to PortableApps.com to retrieve portable
apps. Please try again later.
[InvalidZipFilePossibleNoConnectionOrFirewall ]

and at the same time by the following Windows Defender warning:

Virus & Threat Protection
Threats Found
...

Upon checking Defender's history, this is what I found:

[Closed] PApps version 29.1.1 - Windows Defender found Wacatac.B!ml - false positive?

Duplicate of bug https://portableapps.com/node/70275

Asking to list new programs or search for updates - the result is this:

Found: Trojan:Script/Wacatac.B!ml
file: C:\Users\xxxxxx\AppData\Local\Temp\nsg1B24.tmp\update.7z

what shall I do?
Windows 11 64bit 23H2

Qbittorrent starts automatically with Portable.com platform

Submitted by occam on February 5, 2024 - 4:52am

Hi
Recently, every time I fire up the Portable.com platform on my desktop (Win 10 Home) , the qBittottent app also starts up. I have looked and cannot figure out why? Have I accidentally set an option I should not have? Where? (I have looked at options both within Portable.com and qBittorent, I cannot see any relevant switches.)

Any pointers?
Thanks

Automatic install on initial installation

Submitted by yobydnub on January 28, 2024 - 5:37am

Hi
When installing PortableApps for the first time, is it possible to automatically install ALL the apps without needing any input from the user for those apps that require you to accept and press next and finish etc with your mouse? I'm looking for a fully automatic first install of all apps with no user input.

Thanks
Richard Sparks

Updating PortableApps.com Platform

Submitted by stromy93 on January 19, 2024 - 1:15am

Seems like every time I update the platform, I keep getting an error when updating that:

Error opening file for writing:

E:/PortableApps/PortableApps.com/App/7-Zip/7za.com

Then gives me the option to abort, retry, or ignore. So I ignore. Goes ahead and installs the suite, but then won't update afterwards any of the programs.

PortableApps Updater is now very slow at downloading updates?

Submitted by portable_usb on January 16, 2024 - 1:22pm

Hello, I just made an account here but I've been using the PortableApps ecosystem for years now.

Recently however, I noticed that the PortableApps Updater is very slow at downloading the updates. At first, I thought it could be that the USB I'm using it on is slow but upon digging into it, I discovered the updater downloads the installers to the host PC's temp folder and the actual installation process is relatively fast to begin with anyway. It's the downloads that are slow.
