[Fixed] Unable to download update

Submitted by reliable on December 29, 2020 - 5:53am

The update mechanism used to work but recently (for no apparent reason) has consistently produced this error:
"Unable to download the file. This could be due to a proxy or network issue or the hosting server not permitting downloads from your location." I'm located in Israel.
I tested updating only specific apps via the updater with the same results.

Just in case anybody else is interested:

I wrote a tool that reads the portable apps directory (configurable, defauls to c:\PortableApps) and adds them to the Windows 10 start menu.
Announcement is here:

It's written in Delphi 10.2, source code is available under the MPL and I am willing to donate it to the PortableApps platform if you are interested.

[Fixed] Range Check error in debug build

I just downloaded the latest source archive from SourceForge (PortableAppsPlatformSource17.1.1.7z) and tried to compile and run it in debug mode. I immediately got a Range Check error here:

unit main.pas, Line 1905:

for iControl := 0 to length(arrAppButtonForegrounds) do
if (TObject(arrAppButtonButtons[iControl]) = Sender) or (TObject(arrAppButtonForegrounds[iControl]) = Sender) then

Which is correct because arrAppButtonForegrounds is declared as

arrAppButtonForegrounds: array [0..19] of TImage;

jPortable (x64)

Submitted by occam on November 26, 2020 - 4:27am

Yesterday I tried to install jPortable (x64) on my Win 10 machine (via Portable Apps ... get more apps...). It went through the motions, it said it installed it (the option disappeared from the list of available apps). However, when I subsequently checkd on the list of installed portable programmes, it was not there. Now I can not 'uninstall' it (because it's not on my list of installed progs), nor can I re-install it , because it is not on the list of 'available' apps.

What am I doing wrong?

Update a portable app from a separate updated version

Submitted by Accelerator 01 on November 5, 2020 - 6:09am

I have two copies of the portable apps. One in my computer without internet connection, another one on my flash drive that I update whenever possible.

can I update the one on my PC from the one on my flash drive ?

Is it possible to sync the two somehow ? I cannot simply delete the one on my PC because it has my settings and the browser has bookmarks.

Thank you.

how to launch a document

Submitted by john errington on October 31, 2020 - 10:17am

I'd like to have a document that describes my portable apps - lets say called "helpfile" - launch directly from the platform in the same way that apps do.
At present I have an html document in "documents" - but it requires a lot of actions;
in platform "documents" - opens explorer to documents folder - find the right document - double click - opens in edge.
Ideally I want a single click "help" to open the document - such as in a pop-up box.
