Apps on PortableApps website but not in PortableApps Software

Submitted by dgdharet on March 25, 2023 - 1:57am

I have just realized that certain portableapps like Irfanview are available on the website
https://portableapps.com/apps/graphics_pictures/irfanview_portable
But they are not available in the PortableApps Directory via portableapps software --> GetMoreApps

Is this by mistake?

One app with multiple shortcuts

Submitted by heXler on March 17, 2023 - 7:29am

Hi,

is it possible to have multiple shortcuts to one App?

I want to be able to start an App with different command line arguments (in my case I want to start Opera either normally or with a proxy). I know where to configure the command line arguments. But is it possible to tell PortableApps to load two versions of OperaPortable.ini and show them as two shortcuts?

Thanks.

64-bit preferred (only) mode

Due to the current popularity of 64-bit systems, it may not be necessary for most users to be compatible with 32-bit and 64-bit at the same time.
Storing two versions at the same time will waste double the storage space, especially for some large software or stored in the cloud driver with limited space.

Is it possible to consider separating the 32-bit and 64-bit program packages, just like JRE, allowing users to choose what they need to download? Or you can also keep the 32+64 version, providing a total of 3 versions for users to choose from.

Not exactly support, but I have a couple of questions

First off, if this is the wrong board to post this on, please tell me the correct board.
That said,

What's the point of having a .nomedia file inside the PortableApps folder? .nomedia files do nothing on any OS except Android, and the platform doesn't have an Android version.

Also, what's the point of the Documents folder that gets created upon installation?

Double entries in menu

Please forgive me if this has been covered elsewhere. I did some searching but couldn't find anything that looked like this problem:

Most of my apps have two entries. When I select the option to show all with categories, the ones with double entries are only in the "Other" category. I've tried resetting the .ini file but this only changed the overall menu settings. It didn't remove the double entries.

Another instance running

I was using Portable Explorer++. was happy with it , even if it did crash quite often. The last time it crashed, i closed it. Then when I opened it again, it said ,'another instance of Explorer++ is already running. Please close all instances of Explorer++ before launching Explorer++ Portable.

Understanding the new folder structure

Submitted by PortableGood on February 4, 2023 - 10:00am

Hi. I recently noticed that at least some of the PortableApps apps now have "legacy" subfolders as well as non "legacy" subfolders.

For example, Stellarium now has StellariumPortable\Stellarium and StellariumPortable\StellariumLegacy folders. The same structure is present for Rednotebook.

Can you explain a little about this new folder structure?

If an installation is only going to be used with a single OS, can one or the other subfolder be deleted to make more free space?

Parallel downloads possible when updating? Pause / resume support?

Submitted by jr2 on February 3, 2023 - 7:58pm

When updating PortableApps (apps, not the entire platform), sometimes I'll get stuck on a really slow download for whatever reason. For example, right now I'm updating CherryTree at about 120kBps more or less. The rest of the PortableApps download at a decent speed (I'm cable of about 5-7MBps here).

Question is, would it be possible to allow up to say, 3 apps at a time to download? Then they can cue up their install process whilst others download in the background.
