Change of launch behaviour with recent core update ??

Submitted by softfoot on January 17, 2013 - 11:27am

I have a launcher that launches an editor.

The editor itself is capable of merging multiple instances so that separate launches with different source files get displayed as tabs within a single instance.

This used to work without problem - but recently I have noticed that launching a second (or 3rd) instance causes the second to run as a separate process and not get merged.

The Prortable.ini file has the following set :-
DirectoryMoveOK=yes
SingleAppInstance=false
SinglePortableAppInstance=false

[Request] Bigger icons.

Submitted by ramy_maia on January 15, 2013 - 6:40am

I have a big screen at work, and it's very difficult for me to go through the apps menu with their tiny 16x16 size, i physically have to move my head closer to the screen.
It would be great to offer bigger icons as an option (32x32 or even 48x48). I think it will be usefull for those who are using large displays (and large resolution), and those who have vision proplems.

Idea and Request - Folder Extension for all portable apps: "Appfolder.PortableApp"

My apologies if this has been brought up before - I did a search for ".portableapp" and it stripped out the "." from my search.

So - wouldn't it make sense to use a custom folder extension for each app? Mac OS X uses folder extensions for all kinds of things... For instance, On Mac OS Secret
"Finder.app" becomes "Finder" with a pretty app icon.
"WinXP_VM_Folder.VMwarevm" becomes "WinXP_VM_Folder" with a nice VMware icon.

[Request] Silently update apps

Submitted by MPrime171 on January 6, 2013 - 1:03pm

Can we have an option to silently update portable apps on starting up / shuting down PortableApp main exe? Or maybe the ability to silently run PortableAppsUpdater.exe (standalone). I use an application launcher (FaRR) and would prefer to just run the apps directly.

It also would be useful to have a log about PortableApps main exe and updater actions.

Lazy loading

Will realized the possibility of a delayed start applications when you run the platform in turn launches the application, which is marked "Start automatically"? Because while running 5 - 7 applications is a big load on the disk subsystem.

[Closed] Updates in PortableApps.com Platform 12 Beta 2

Submitted by OLLI_S on January 3, 2013 - 4:10am

Hello,

the PortableApps.com Platform 12 Beta 2 reports two updates for my portable apps:
- Crystal Disk Info 5.2.1
- Free Download Manager 3.9.2.1281

If I click on "Next" then nothing happens, I just get the info that all portable apps are updated.
If I then check for updates, I get the updates shown again.

Is this a bug or a beta limitation?

Greetings

OLLI

Any details on v12's file associations?

Submitted by Kevin.York on December 30, 2012 - 7:33pm

I am eager for the new file associations feature.

There have have been several portable apps [or semi-portable] to handle file associations. Nearly all of them only handle the default [double-click] association.

I am hoping v12 is taking after 'PortableFileAssociator 2.2.1.8', as double-click alone won't help me.

So can anyone know the details on v12's file associations?

"Unable to connect to PortableApps.com..." Error I started getting with 12.0 Beta 1

Submitted by J0KE on December 28, 2012 - 1:02pm

Hello.

After installing Platform 12.0 Beta 1, when I would "Check For Updates", I would get an error window that would pop up saying...

"Unable to connect to PortableApps.com to retrieve portable apps. Please try again later. [ URL Parts Error ]"

I'm not positive if I was getting this error every time I would check for updates after installing 12.0 Beta 1, but I know I have got this error every time I have tried checking for updates the last 10+ times I have tried.

PortableApps.com disappears but remains running

Submitted by mappo on December 20, 2012 - 3:48am

_To replicate the problem do the following:_
1. Start PortableApps.com Platform
2. Click Options (or open another "child window" like the About-splash).
3. Click on something else (e.g. the Windows desktop)

This loss of focus causes PortableApps.com Platform to minimize along with its "child window". After this I can't restore it.

I'm running version 11.2 as Admin under Windows 7 (6.1) [Build: 7601].
