Hello,
first of all Portable Apps is really cool Thanks a lot...
Hi everyone,
If this isn't actually a bug, I'll end up looking like the newbie I am, and I hasten to add that I searched before posting. My issue is this:
Note: this happens with both PAF and non-PAF apps. At no point did I exit and restart the menu.
everytime i run the updater i get an error on 2 different pc,4 different hard drives.this is a pic of the error any help will be greatly appreciated. http://i27.tinypic.com/1zq9enk.jpg
I wasn't sure exactly where to post this. I've been using the beta 5 Platform since it was released, and have been very happy with the updater function. But today, a new version of uTorrent was released, and when I use the updater I get the following error after downloading the file:
"The downloaded copy of uTorrent Portable is not valid and can not be installed. This could be due to an incomplete download or other network issue. Please try running the updater again when complete"
When I clicked "Check for updates" in the "Manage Apps" category, it said that there wasn't a connection detected, which was correct because at that time I didn't have the modem hooked up to the Internet. Yet when I clicked okay, the Update Portable Apps dialog box appeared. Anyone have an idea why this would be? I would figure after clicking "OK" the updater would close.
Hi,
New system works really well.
I was wondering though, now I no longer need to keep the original exe's on the hard drive (even just for visual comparison) could the updater do this itself, ie show both the current version available as well as what is installed?
Also, would someone know a way to make Mozilla run from location so I don't need to put the extractors on my system at all?
Regards
Not quite sure where to post this one.
The updater in beta5 just suggested that I update my XAMPP launcher to v1.4, but the XAMPP page at https://portableapps.com/apps/development/xampp still lists v1.3 as being current.
1.4 is indeed available on SF, and the updater installs it fine, so I'm guessing that the web page is off. (I did a quick search, and couldn't see any release announcement for 1.4 anywhere either).
Long story short, sometimes an app becomes corrupt, and those of us "in the know" know that simply reinstalling the app will often fix it.
Now that the updater is part of the platform, it seems that it would be trivial to offer a "Repair" feature. Right click the app, choose Repair, and it uses the updater to reinstall the app (either through a cheap hack: set the version a point lower in appinfo.ini and launch updater, or by sending a switch/argument to the updater to update just that one app).
Obviously a low priority but it would be great if the updater could also have a list of ALL software and allow you to use the update function to add programs.
I love the launcher but there is one thing that i think might make it easier to use. When it first scans the drive, it picks up all the exe files. It may show 3 programs in one directory or more. The user does not know what program is what (it shows the directory title, not program name) Is it possible to add to the right click menu a properties option to show the full file name assigned to that slot or to add Show full filename. It will make it easier to decide what to hide when starting up the program.
thanks.
