I need a pin up option when i install/update a lot of program at same time.
I have a suggestion that would seriously benefit the Portable Apps Platform ... why do we have to manually download a whole new installer every time we update our apps? Why can't the platform have an "Auto-update option? Perhaps a nice little menu with checkboxes so users and select what they do or don't want to update at the time ... possibly even a "roll-back" feature, like Windows has for it's drivers.
But of course, that's just what I think about it ... what do the rest of you think: is it a good idea?
On the laptop I’m writing from I use a 20 GB C: drive plus a 40 GB D: drive. Drive C: is almost full (i.e., about 2 GB free) whilst drive D: has about 15 GB free.
Windows’ %TEMP% variable points to
C:\DOKUME~1\username\LOKALE~1\Temp
which is the 8-character name for
C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\username\Lokale Einstellungen\Temp
Symptom "Backup is SLOW":
When using the new App Updater, some of the apps are not updating correctly. This morning an update was available for Thunderbird and PNotes. Thunderbird updated correctly, but PNotes did not.
When I try to update it, it tries download it a couple of time and then puts up the error "The downloaded copy of PNotes Portable is not valid and can not be installed. This could be due to an incomplete download or other network issue. Please try running the updater again when complete."
My AppCompactor installation is fully updated - it's at version 2.0.1 - but the PortableApps Updater keeps saying it needs another update. I even tried letting the Updater "update" it, then I re-ran the Updater 5 minutes later and it said AppCompactor needed another update.
I'm guessing something isn't quite right either in the updates database or in the way AppCompactor is reporting its version.
Thanks!

I believe this is true as I have not been able to find out how change the directory name and still use the start exe.
To clarify StartPortableApps.exe can be moved anywhere as long as a directory called "PortableApps" exists in the same directory with the Portable apps menu located inside.
The Portability issue is that you can't use it to point to any other directory other than "PortableApps" and it must be in the same relative location.
All the other apps support changing directory names (including "PortableApps"), usually for program as well as data/profile locations.
Can you add parameter for activate running on read-only usb stick ?
Thanks

Hello
I recently installed DNRgarmin, a GPS/GIS utility on thumb drive j: with no problems, ran fine. Now trying to install on hard drive with following: "Error 1325: PortableApps is not a vaild short file name." I see this is a generic problem for flash drives and fixes point to the registry and I've tried several approaches including repairing and searching the registry with no luck. I was able to install a previous version of DNRgarmin, but would like to be able to have the latest, plus I'm worried about future problems with other programs.
hi,
why isnt it possible to add programs manually by drag and drop into the menu program list????
plz can u fix it? thx...
Has anyone else had the issue the the "Check for Updates" feature is not working in the ver 2.0 beta 5 release? Every time I select "Check for Updates", a window named "PortableApps.com Updater" opens, but there are never any entries. If I go to the PortableApps.com web site and manually check the version numbers of my apps, I notice that several have updates available. Is the updater not actually being used right now?
TIA,
Jon
