PA Launcher: Possible Bug

Submitted by Gremlin on August 18, 2010 - 9:08am

Hi,

I think I found a bug in the PA Launcher V2.0.

Description:
When you try to generate a portable app launcher you get the notification that the launcher was not generated. In the launcher generator's log file you get the following text in the last line:

Error in script "G:\WinBox\PortableApps.com\PortableApps.comLauncher\Other\Source\PortableApps.comLauncher.nsi" on line 54 -- aborting creation process

This happens when you choose a too long term with too much blanks in the term for the variable 'name' under section [Details] in App\AppInfo\appinfo.ini

Encryption Question

Submitted by patrickmaddog on August 12, 2010 - 5:08pm

I got overzealous and immediately installed the Suite on my new portable hard drive, forgetting that I was intending to install it in a TrueCrypt encrypted file container for protection of my saved passwords and such. Since a TrueCrypt volume is mounted like a drive, to which you can easily drag and drop files, I was wondering if I could simply move the PortableApps directory into the container and use it like normal, or would I have to reinstall?

creating my first theme

Submitted by darkscythe002 on August 10, 2010 - 5:15am

hi, I'm new at making themes for the potable apps. I've used it for a few years, and wanted to make a theme of my own, so i tried to follow the guide that i found on another post (http://ptc.kain-planet.de/pap20t-en-2.php). I've been able to make it, but i want to change the button colors. is there a link that has all the different colors? (here's a pic of it: http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/8278/bleachthemea.jpg)

Problems with re-establishing a back-up

Submitted by Anders Rasmussen on August 8, 2010 - 5:28am

I’m using Portable Apps suite, primarily Thunderbird, and enjoying it.

However I have messed up quite a lot and am now in a bit of a problem.

Somehow Thunderbird has been deleted from my USB-disk. I think it is be course I took the disk out while the laptop was in standby-mode, but with Thunderbird still running. The suite-interface is still showing a disk usage corresponding to Thunderbird still being there, but my XP is showing that it is gone. The Thunderbird folder has formed to a 1-KB unknown file and the icon removed from the suite-interface.

App conversion error message

Require an application "Sysangel" required for PXE boot installation of Windows Operating System. With Portable app ver. 2.0.2 the folder: "Portable Apps Directory" was created... in this folder, the folder "Sysangel" was created. The download of this app was placed in the Sysangel folder

The Portable Apps Platform app ver 2.0.2 was installed to the C: drive of this same computer and launched. Through this app, a path was navigated to this uninstalled app.

Problem Launching application from the platform

Submitted by 0per4t0r on August 3, 2010 - 10:47pm

I have the game "Plasma Pong" installed, and it will run fine if you open it from windows explorer, but the platform will not open it. If i click on its icon on the menu, it just closes the menu and does nothing.

When the game launches, it usually opens a command prompt displaying the game settings, and then launches the game itself and GLUT (something to do with opengl)

[Suggestion] Unblackboxing the Updater

Submitted by depp.jones on August 3, 2010 - 6:17pm

After I tested the new update feature and read some threads about issues with it (and some other aspects of installing apps) some ideas began to grow...

  • For now the updater simply works as expected as long as no errors occur (firewall etc.). To solve these is usually beyond the normal users skills.
  • There is no option to automatically repair a damaged app. Reinstalling manually seems obvious but is not thought of by some people.

Hide to systray is not working properly

Submitted by Phoenix_CZ on July 31, 2010 - 6:31pm

Hi,
I am using Portable apps version 2.0 beta 5 Pre 2 on windows 7 with SP1.
I update to this beta version because of update possibility and its working fine for me.

But I found another small bug, always I use portable apps and select application to run or I minimize to system tray, application stays in task bar Sad

Its possible to set up in configuration that it should minimize to tray icon like previous versions? I simply dont want to have Portable Apps in taskbar.
