RFE: start apps as children of launcher process group so they can be terminated cleanly on exit

Submitted by Bob Bagwill on July 14, 2010 - 9:35am

I use an IronKey thumbdrive which must be locked and ejected cleanly. I would like the PortableApps launcher to be able to cleanly close all the apps it launched.

It wouldn't be a bad idea for PortableApps (the company) to do a little cooperative development with Ironkey.

Can I autorun the Portable Apps program without having to click on the Windows Autorun?

Hi,

Is there any way that I can configure my USB drive so that when I plug it in the Portable Apps program autoruns and opens up the apps menu without me having to do anything or open the program from the Windows autorun box that pops up every time?

Thanks

Backup not working...

Submitted by milesinfront on July 13, 2010 - 12:10am

Ver 1.6!

Backup is not successful. Recommends I check my settings. I have details turned on, but the screen vanishes before I get a chance to see where the problem may be. Takes ages (45mins) for the backup to get to nearly finished, then it fails. If I choose backup settings only then it takes 1 or 2 seconds to reach the failure point. Destination is a network drive. I tried backing up to my local HD but still not joy...

Any ideas?

What does the menu do, other than the obvious ?

Actually, that's a pretty dumb title ...

What I mean is that I mostly work in a very document-oriented way, and I rarely launch apps directly. Hence, I am usually using a file manager as my interface, and almost never an app menu.

So, does the PortableApps menu do anything other than launching the relevant apps, like adjusting paths or environment variables, or cleaning up the registry, or something ?
If I don't use the PortableApps menu at all, do I lose anything in terms of portability ?
