Incompatibility - Object Dock

Submitted by wduncan on August 31, 2009 - 2:00pm

Just wanted to see if anyone else can confirm. I seem to have found an incompatibility between Stardock's ObjectDock and the Portable Launcher app. I know they are two different beasts, but I wasn't able to ever access the menu more than once before it would stop responding. The application list wouldn't scroll, nothing would happen if you tried to click on the applications, folder links, or settings option. It would require me to eject the drive and re-insert it and launch the platform again.

This happened with both the 1.5 and the new beta version.

[Feature Request] - a note field for each app

Submitted by RogerL on August 31, 2009 - 1:12pm

accessed via Right-click on the app's entry in the menu.

Allows user to keep any notes they like, e.g if it's a beta version - any test results; in the future for non-PA apps - from where they were obtained; even just a reminder of what the apps does, some names aren't obvious and some memories aren't what they used to be!

A nice touch would be to display, say the first line or until some indicator, the text on the end of the information that is displayed when the mouse hovers over the menu entry.

Well, I was modifying John's windows 7 theme and I noticed some bugs with the menu... during my theming fail...

Well, the problem was the menu icons being a corrupt png. As a result, the menu got buggy, and a lot more problems happened, so much I couldn't do anything with it.

First... the personal picture disappeared, along with the menu icons, and the app list icons.

PAP "get more apps"

Submitted by listless on August 27, 2009 - 1:36am

Hi

I only just came back to using Mozilla Firefox, but am quite impressed with the latest iteration, and how when I select "find new applications" from the Options menu it takes me to the website via this particular browser, when I thought it was going to open (god forbid) IE.

Now, what I'd like to know is can a link be put in the menu to Email support at portableapps.com because that would be the totally coolest thing to be able to access newsgroups and the like.

So what does anyone think?

Adding run-time options to an application launch

Submitted by gahamt on August 25, 2009 - 12:36pm

I have a mixture of applications packaged for PortableApps and applications which are portable but have not been packaged for the PortableApps platform. When installing the stand-alone applications I followed the instructions here about creating a folder below the PortableApps folder and installing all of the run-time files there.

Making the current platform behave like its (potential) future self

The current platform release has lots of great new features, but there are still a lot of requested/planned features that have not been added.
Here's a short list of some that I've seen recently:
1. Categories
2. File Associations
3. App Updater
4. Portable Fonts
5. Custom Folders
6. Re-ordering apps

While we are waiting for these to be implemented, we can use other "add-ons" and tricks to make the Platform do what we want.
Here's my list of how I've dealt with these things:

Adding New Folders to the Platform - A Q&D solution

One of the more requested enhancements to the PA platform is the addition of more folder shortcuts, other than the default Documents, Music, Pictures, Video, and Explore.
While you can't add them to the same right-hand side of the platform yet, it is easy to make shortcuts to folders in with the app shortcuts.

This example makes shortcuts to two custom subfolders of Documents: Web Pages and Work.

First create your subfolders:

X:\Documents\WebPages
X:\Documents\Work

Then create the following folder structure:

X:\PortableApps\Folders\App\Appinfo
