What does the menu do?

Submitted by pelican on September 4, 2008 - 12:33am

I'm an enthusiastic user of PortableApps and I'm trying to get a better understanding, in simple terms, of how the system works. The "What is a portable app?" page appears self-explanatory for a single app program but it's only after reading bits and pieces of various threads that I get the impression that personal data may be left behind if a PortableApp is not used within the integrated PortableApps menu.

portableapps won't work on the pc I used to install them...

I have two computers and the one I used to install portableapps to my flash drive refuses to run portableapps. On my other computer I could just use the startportableapps program and it created the thing in the system tray. However when I try that on the original computer it won't start in the system tray...

Is this normal or is there a setting that needs to be changed?

Removing from menu, without deleting files.

I have installed Spybot S&D into my menu by adding it into the PortableApps folder. However, this program is composed of more than one executable, including an uninstall file.

I could delete these, but they are crucial to the program.

Is it possible to remove them from the menu without deleting them? I just want the main app on the menu, which can open all the other .exe's through its GUI.

Thanks for your help (if you *can* help)

U3 Launchpad - is it needed ?

Submitted by magoood on August 29, 2008 - 8:36am

Hi all and first, I want to apologize if this is question has been asked before but searching the forum did not answer my question exactly.
I wanted to ask if I can uninstall the Sandisk U3 launchpad from my "Intuix 2 GB U3 drive" while still having the U3 functionality which I want of course since I installed the portableapps launchpad and I like it much more than the dumb U3 launch pad which does not many options IMO regarding managing shortcuts of apps...etc

Firefox 3, Portable Edition Question

Submitted by smith_fan on August 25, 2008 - 5:33pm

I am interested in learning the optimum procedure for upgrading a U3-based installation of Firefox 2, Portable Edition (v2.0.0.16). I want to begin using Firefox 3, Portable Edition (v3.0.1), but am concerned because I read on a Mozilla site somewhere that they recommend using a fresh, v3-only profile when switching to version 3 because of some issue that Firefox 3 tends to have with importing Firefox 2 profiles. Has anyone heard anything about this?
