My dear friend,

I know you're spending a lot of time reading topics at the PortableApps.com forum. And that you're missing that smart layout when you're finished reading all reaplies twice. So I made a forum theme for your PAM 1.1. Take a look:

Forum
PAM-Version
PAM 1.1

I hope that will warms up your heart.

Incremental Updating

Just a small suggestion. I just had a look at the Mods and was impressed with the number of extra features. One thing that became apparent to me is the long long time ut would take incorporate all those new features into the PAM. Especially with new features in the forks likely to be added. Thats why I thought I'd suggest incremental updating. eg. with 1.1 you added the eject script and the personal pic. Just add features incrementally like that.

That way you know each feature is fully integrated correctly and you can maintain that perfectionist work ethic towards the menu.

Autoloader on XP

Submitted by Smush on October 16, 2008 - 2:36pm

Hi I just installed the platform today and looks awesome Smile except the autoloader doesn't work. At first I installed it to a new folder on the USB drive I named 'SYSTEM' as I didn't want to clutter the root up and SYSTEM seems a sensible name to use. So I took the USB drive out and re-inserted it hoping to see the portable apps menu pop up, but no only the Windows XP auto run menu appeared. I thought it could be that the .inf and the other portable app files aren't in the root of the device.

Windows Vista problem

Submitted by Landlord on October 16, 2008 - 3:45am

I was using the Portableapps platform on an Acer laptop with Windows XP with no problems. I have since bought a new HP laptop with Windows Vista and I've started having problems. Everything loads ok and I can use all apps. The main app I use is Gnucash. When I come to close down Portable apps prior to removing my external drive I get a message saying that the computer can't write to the Portableapps platform. Anybody got any ideas ?

Changing Icons

How would one change the icons on folders in the documents and portableapps directories and additional folders and have them stay when moving to different pcs and having the drive letter change?

Are any trace files left on the PC like U3 ... and a few other simple questions

Submitted by s.t.s on October 13, 2008 - 9:37am

Hi all

I have just discovered this portable apps thing and it looks really promising ... I have been using U3 on a 2Gb Titanium and really like it ... barring the trace (upto 20Mb worth!!) files that are left on the machine in the Application Data folder.

I have just bought a U3 8Gb Contour but before I go through the transition to the new drive I want to decide whether this portableapps is worth changing to I would like to know if this "fully" runs from the flash drive and places (not just leaves) no files on the host PC at all?

[solved] Option to disable the fade in/out effect

Submitted by i like pi on October 11, 2008 - 4:21pm

Hello,

On some slower computers, the fading effect when opening or closing the menu is excruciatingly slow. I've dug around the FAQ and the settings file but found nothing to turn it off. I found another post with a reply saying that an option to turn it off would come "soon," but it was made over a year ago. I would greatly appreciate the addition of such an option.

Thanks for your time and the excellent software!
