I Downloaded the PortableApps.com Platform and installed it on an external USB drive, 300 GB FAT32 in a folder called PORTABLE.
The program starts and puts its window in the lower right corner of the screen but when I click on a folder in the menu, the folder opens and the PortableApps.com Platform shuts down. I suppose this is not how it should be. Any suggestions? I run Win XP home. I downloaded the PortableApps.com Platform only, because it is multilingual.

Possible Simple Implementation of custom App List

Submitted by wwitthoff1 on July 10, 2008 - 4:19am

First, Apologies if this post is incorrectly located.

Second, How about having PAM output the exes it find to a text file or similar and then use that for what it lists. Joe user could then go in and edit the "app list" and remove the ones that aren't applications. (e.g. the extra exes for inkscape)

Just thought I'd share my idea.

True autorun

Submitted by Degine on July 9, 2008 - 4:10pm

Is it possible to let the PortableApps Menu start the instant you insert a flash drive?

Now I always get a popup from Windows' autorun which asks me what action to perform, one of which is to start PortableApps. I have to switch PCs very often, easily 20+ times a day. After a few weeks the extra 2 clicks everytime are starting to get bothersome. In addition some of the PCs have autorun disabled. Double clicking the drive icon in My Computer doesn't default to autorun either, but opens the map instead.

no autorun.inf read

OK, it is a kind of FAQ, but search did not really help me so far.

On one XP-pro at work, all is fine, the autorun.inf is read on connecting the usb stick, choose portableapps and all is fine.

On othe XP-pro, the stick is recognised, it is assigned a drive letter, but the ICON is not displayed and also no menu for choosing portableapps comes up.
The autorun.inf is not read.

Icon Transparency

I've been taking a look at the various PAM-mod themes that are available. Seems like some themes use non-white backgrounds but don't bother with transparency of folder icons and application icons. Others seem to do pretty well with this, and others seem to try transparency but leave a jagged white border around the icon itself.

Archos 504,160gig

Submitted by 8thsinner on July 6, 2008 - 3:15am

I have spent most of my day yesterday trying to install portable apps into my archos 504.
I was looking to change the dir links.
Now because the portable apps program is designed for regular flash drives with no previously required dir structures.
So the archos has it's own structure, and where this interferes with the portable apps not in function but in ease of use.
The platform gives links to doc, music, vids and pictures. But these are designed to follow the USB structure not the archos, Is there a way to rewrite those links to go straight back into the archos existing folders.

PortableApps/ObjectDock Update

Submitted by lockmajor on July 4, 2008 - 12:53am

I have run into the problem of trying to run both PortableApps and ObjectDock at the same time. Looking through prior posts, I understand that it is an issue with ObjectDock's setup. However, I notice that all the posts are well over a year old. Is there an update to this issue? I am running the most recent versions of PortableApps and ObjectDock. Any help/updates would be awesome. Thanks a bunch.
