Can't Run Anything

Submitted by Hollis McCray on August 17, 2008 - 8:33am

Yesterday my U3 drive decided to 'update' itself and ate itself and all my data on my 2gb SanDisk Cruzer Micro. So got mad and decided to install PortableApps platform. Except I can't get either the framework or any of the apps to run. I've downloaded and installed it twice with the same results. The install is the full suite including OpenOffice. Can anyone advise?

Is the official version going to support grouping, hiding , moving apps...

OK, currently I am splitting application launch between PortableApps and Pstart... I love PortableApps and would really rather use it for all my needs. While searching I did just find the thread that spoke about a mod and I've currently downloaded it and found it to be perfect for my needs.

My only question, I guess, is this... Is the official PortableApps ever going to support grouping, hiding apps, moving/dragging//renaming apps within the menu itself?

Other suffixes then PAF.EXE & right menu

Hallo.

Q1: Please, how can I add other files, eg. EXE, TXT, ZIP, RAR, CMD... Without these possibility is portable menu unusable for me.

Q2: How can I remove right side of "menu" (Documents, Music, Video)? I want only main part of "menu", list of apps. Full menu is too width for me (some lite version?)

Thank you very much!

Contextual Menu Navigation

This is just an idea I've been thinking about for ages now. Have you guys (the developers of the menu) ever considered a contextual menu like the one in the "Start" menu's "Programs" menu in windows. I don't really mind how it would be done (i.e. a construct based on settings that a user can control, versus a "Program Files" sub-folder system like that of the "Start" menu's Programs list). I'm aware that the current PAM won't register any programs that are below the initial subfolders of the "PortableApps" folder, so I'm not sure how you would like to deal with it.

Menu position changes sometimes unintended

Since the introduction of the menu remembering the position I have sometimes that when I start the menu it opens not in the default bottom right location but somewhat in the middle of the screen.

I suspect it has something to do with the changing resolutions (for example while playing a game). I'm unsure what exactly happened, maybe the game crashed leaving the menu thinking it had some other position on screen. I personally think that having the menu draggable is not that important and always have it located on the down right corner. (Dragging the menu back to the location).

Confused and Bewildered Newbie

Hi Everyone,

I'm looking for an application to edit sound on my Blackberry Curve 8330 and someone on another forum suggested that I look at the PortableApps version of Audacity. Now that I'm here, I'm completely bewildered by this site/program -

1. Does PortableApps reside on my BB and allow me to run programs from my device or does my BB have to be connected to a computer in order to run?
2. If so, how do I install PortableApps on my BB?

John, can the theme engine layer buttons?

Submitted by dragonmage on August 8, 2008 - 6:38pm

I haven't been around much. I don't have internet access at home right now, so I don't know what news there has been for the theme engine.

So I had what I hope is an epiphany. John you said you found a png lib to use, and that we could use alpha on buttons. Could those buttons be displayed over an area of the background that is transparent? If so, could you make the entire backgound transparent, and create a "button" that is the actual form and displays behind all other buttons. Alpha to the desktop?
