Uninstalling Thunderbird EULA after installation in wrong location

Okay, I did something stupid. I thought I'd give portableapps.com Suite a try as a new user on a new flash drive.

1) I downed the suite, all 100+ MB
2) Plugged in the new Flash (yes, I erased all files on it first)
3) Invoked the Suite installer and of course it asked where did I want to install.
4) Found Drive D of the 1GB size (I thought, great) and installed
5) Only after I pulled the flash out did I find that the plug contacts were broken off inside the flash housing (I wondered why its light didn't blink during install)

Custom Background Image

Sorry everyone, I am very new to this, but I am having trouble with the custom background image in the Pictures folder on the flash drive. I chose the image I wanted and renamed it to "portableapps_wallpaper.bmp" Now for some reason I can load the image on ANY Vista OS but not on XP Home and Pro. I get a solid color screen on XP. I have tried multiple images and I made sure I tried .JPEG and .BMP extensions, (yes I changed the extension suffix, not the file name).

Lost My Menu

Submitted by Murari S on September 7, 2008 - 7:24am

Hi

I was trying to manually get rid of an irritating virus on my pen drive, and accidentally deleted PortableAppsMenu.exe. I do not have a back up to restore from. I tried reinstalling the Platform using the platform download but the menu does not recognise any of my existing apps. Is there any way I can get menu to recognise my existing apps, without having to download and install them all over again?

Cannot write to PortableAppsMenu.ini - RO USB

I keep getting errors when I exit the portable apps menu when I mount my USB drive as read-only. My work PC is running PGP desktop and is configured to encrypt any USB drive, or mount it read-only. Since I would like to use the USB drive on other computers, I mount it RO. The applications work fine - Firefox recognizes that it's running from a RO media and offers to copy itself to a temporary location on the hard drive.

What does the menu do?

I'm an enthusiastic user of PortableApps and I'm trying to get a better understanding, in simple terms, of how the system works. The "What is a portable app?" page appears self-explanatory for a single app program but it's only after reading bits and pieces of various threads that I get the impression that personal data may be left behind if a PortableApp is not used within the integrated PortableApps menu.
