Security - a password protection

Submitted by Vidar on May 30, 2007 - 3:24am

I find PortableApps suberb og would like to use it instead of U3. but U3 has a password protection option that makes the U3-usb secure until the password has been entered. It's the one and only detail that makes me hesitate and change completely to PortableApps.
Does there exist a similar password protection for the PortableApps?

i love portable apps menu but when i click on it i want it to start in tray icon and not to pop up like it normally does, is there any way to do that? thank you

P.S. it would be nice if in the new update they added a small litte menu when you right click it to exit, or open.

"Downloads" folder in "Documents"??

Submitted by cosgrove on May 22, 2007 - 1:35pm

Hi all,

It seems to me there ought to be a "Downloads" folder within the "Documents" folder that the PortableApps suite installer builds - I often download files from the web onto my USB drive while I'm at the office for use at home, and vice versa.

If there's interest, I built a "desktop.ini" file and an icon that is thematically similar to those already in use, which I'd be happy to donate.

Runs great under Wine .... but

Submitted by BigRich on May 21, 2007 - 1:41pm

doesn't start apps.

How about checking OS and use Wine to launch apps if needed?

I am now using everything on XP, Vista, and Ubuntu. Plus I have Ubuntu able to run live (and somewhat slower) from my USB drive if I am on a Windows machine. Don't get me wrong, most of my work is still in Windows, but Ubuntu/Wine seems to run everything well, which I manually locate and right click and choose open with Wime. Since these are also open source, free (portable) apps they would seem to be a good match with portableapps.

The video folder

Submitted by SonOfOsiris357 on May 19, 2007 - 1:40pm

The video folder from portable apps menu should be changed to "videos", to make it more compatible with u3, so that there will be only one folder for videos, instead of a folder called video (portable apps menu), and one called videos (u3). Or could someone provide a link to a program that can lock the flashdrive like u3 does, so I can get rid of u3.

Portable Apps Menu with graphical glitches when desktop resolution is a 16:10 resolution

Submitted by CaPohl on May 9, 2007 - 1:22am

Hi!

First of all, thank you for your great software.

Sometimes I use Portable apps under an old Dell Notebook that has an 16:10 screen resolution. The exact resolution is:

WSXGA+ 1680x1050 16:10 Wide Super Extended Graphics Array plus

When starting the menu, some graphical elements are not in the right corner, but others are. For example the Button labels are in the right place, but the PortableApps.com banner isnt.

Is this problem known?

Keep up your great work.

regards,
Carsten
