I just noticed today that the drive space bar doesnt work on my Linux PC.
I have a 1GB stick and it shows "302,5Mb free of 323MB". I have ca. 323Mb of free space on this USB drive.
And somehow the menu doest fade away after I clicked on it to launch something.
Just to let you know.

Autorun.inf does not work

Submitted by TNA on March 1, 2007 - 5:24pm

The Autorun.inf file in my USB's root directory does not seem to have an effect on the computers I insert the USB drive into. It does not change the icon for the drive with the one of the PortableApps Menu icon, and the drive doesn't get assigned the label name.

I have tried this mainly on 3 machines and the pattern I'm seeing is that the first time you insert the USB drive into the computer everything shows up ok (meaning the settings are being read from the autorun.inf file), but on subsequent insertions the settings aren't read.

Remove Overlay

Submitted by KarlMarxist on March 1, 2007 - 9:52am

Hello all,

Is there a way to remove the menu overlay? Clarification: the title bar at the top of the portable apps menu. I have found how to edit the background and icons, however in my search of the portable app package and the forum noone seems to have done this. Let me know if it is possible.

When PAM looks in "other directories" for exe's it finds installs and uninstalls .....

Submitted by BigRich on February 26, 2007 - 7:39pm

Why not have it look for "shortcuts" instead of exe's then when a non PA app is found nearby it would just add the shortcut to the menu - much cleaner.

or maybe a "package factory" type util to make other apps PA friendlier?

Can't rename my portable drive

Submitted by happy5 on February 24, 2007 - 2:12pm

Hi all,

Have being using portable Firefox for some time now, and recently made the jump to the full Portable Apps - very nice!

Everything works just fine except there is one problem. Where I work we plug-in different jump drives to the same computer, and thus each user renames the portable drive (right-clicking the drive and selecting "rename").

Text, Icon, or Both

Submitted by dragonmage on February 24, 2007 - 11:00am

To give theme designers and end users more choices, I think it would be cool if you could allow the apps section and folders/options section to show either icons , text, or both. We could then design themes that used only text ( some people don't like icons ), or text on the apps section and only icons on the folders/options section. Combined with my idea of adjustable margins this allows a lot of flexibility in theme design.
This would be a setting made in the .ini by the theme designer, and the end user could change them by editing the .ini if they wanted it different.
