PortableApps.com Platform

Having updated the platform to V16 I notice that the popup menu is now almost all black icons - doesn't look very good.

(Windows 10 64 bit)

I'm a little surprised about a new yellow icon. It appears in the main menu above the writing "PortableApps.com" and consists of three yellow semicircles with a vertical line (like a multi-armed candlestick).

What does this mean? When you click on it it disappears!

I also can't say exactly since when this appears. I only noticed this now after the update to V16.

Hi, when I start the PortableApps-Programm above the PortableApps-Icon at the right side a menora (candlelight holder) is shown. What does this mean?

Is it because of a holiday?

Hi,

Had a broken portable apps setup on my desktop pc and two laptops I updated on.
In the end I got it all working again, and for other people and the devs I wanted to leave a note on this..

What I did was:
1. Rename the original portableapps folder to portableapps.old
2. Downloaded the v16 installer and installed as a Full version.
3. Moved all my installed apps over to the new install. Had to install a new app to see where it would end up...
4. Restarted the new portable app launcher.

Platform 16.0 Error message:

Access violation at address 00566CE4 in module 'PortableAppsPlatform.exe'. Read of address 000001D0.

Is there a way a PortableApps program can be ignored during updates so the updater will not list it as an option to update?

I know I can just rename or move the folder but that will break file associations and shortcuts.

An ignore option for each app would help work around problems like Notepad++ 7.6.0 breaking portable Notepad++'s plugins. I could just stick with 7.5.9 and set PortableApps to ignore it when doing updates. Hopefully, Notepad++ gets fixed and the updates can be turned back on.

Did an update of the platform recently, but either the internet connection or something with the PC went wrong during the update process. Now the PortableApps menu is gone, there's only a small window with some unreadable lines left when I click on the icon. The apps themselves still work properly, but how do I get the menu and the update function back? Install portableapps in its old folder again - but will it recognise the list of apps then? Any help appreciated. Best regards, Joe Theo

I have resisted updating the platform software for a long time. I was satisfied with the way the old platform (for reference, the date on the StartPortableApps.exe file is Nov. 2006, and it may actually be older than that) handled entries - fixed order and a single window, and not all that eager to move to the newer formats, esp. in the early versions. I have done fresh installs on other systems and finally decided to take advantage of the ease of application updates in the newer platform.
