[Closed] copy shows different apps and categories to original

Submitted by john errington on September 13, 2017 - 12:52pm

I have set up my portable apps platform one one PC. When I copy the whole portable apps directory to another PC the categories are not the same and some apps are not registered.
For example I have a "stability" category on PC1 which is not shown when I run portable apps platform on PC2.
Also I have "FixWin" at C:/portable apps/portable apps/Fixwin/fixwin.exe on pc1 which IS registered on the platform;
When I copy the top level poratble apps directory to D:/downloads on PC2
I have "FixWin" at D:/downloads/portable apps/portable apps/Fixwin/fixwin.exe

"Apps still running" when they are not.

I installed the Portableapps.com platform on a Windows 10 desktop. When I exit the platform, I am getting a "The following portable apps are still running" error message. But, these apps are already closed, and I don't see them in Windows 10's taskbar and the system tray. When I open the Windows 10's Task manager, I see that the apps are in the "Background processes", and I have to kill them there before I can close Portableapps.com platform.

What's going on and how can I fix that? Thanks.

PortableApps.com Launcher no longer needs a variant of NSIS Portable

Submitted by lwc on August 9, 2017 - 3:04am

https://portableapps.com/manuals/PortableApps.comLauncher/intro/quicksta... claims that "To use the PortableApps.com Launcher, you will need to download and install NSIS Portable (the Unicode variant)".
But NSIS Portable no longer has variants. There's only one program now.
So please remove that claim (in the offline version too).

Also see about whether it needs NSIS Portable at all.

Portables apps download_hold in temp_to later install

Submitted by Mr.D on August 3, 2017 - 8:23am

I was updating my portable apps from many years of nonservice by me.
I was out of storage and transferred to a new thumb drive, and had to down load again.
I then lost the internet, had to down load again, and wait for install.

Could this be a lot like Microsoft where it downloaded then waited for the install by the user with notices?

Thank You

Website temporarily inaccessible

Submitted by earant2801 on August 2, 2017 - 9:28am

I've been trying to download several apps since yesterday around 1 PM CST and all have failed with the notification stating: The PortableApps.com website is temporarily inaccessible to maintenance and the app can not be downloaded. Can someone confirm maintenance is still underway and is it typical maintenance windows last this long?

Thanks

Automatic non-interactive update from command line.

Submitted by TechColab on July 21, 2017 - 8:13am

I would like to use a command line to automatically get updates.
I would trigger it by a WOL process on a Sunday night for example.
I don't mind if my script has to first start the Platform process.
I don't mind hard-coding an /ACCEPTEULA flag like SysInternals do.
I don't really mind if the GUI is visible or not.
I don not want it to wait for an 'OK' or need a 'Finish' at the end.
I don't mind if my script has to taskkill the Platform process at the end,
but I would need a reliable way of knowing when the Updater process finished.
