Is there a way to cleanup PortableAppsMenu.ini

Submitted by Fanch on January 15, 2017 - 8:10am

Hello,
I use PortableApps for a while now and my PortableAppsMenu.ini is quite long (>2000 shortcuts).
I add "personnal" portable apps (i.e. without the "portableApps" format) just have them in the PortableApps menu and to synchronize all in a personal cloud.

The thing is : PortableAppsMenu.ini contains a lot of obsoletes links, and PortableAppsMenu takes a long time to start.

Is there a way to clean up the shortcuts in PortableAppsMenu.ini ?

Thank you in advance.

Folder/Directory organization

Submitted by Larbac on January 8, 2017 - 11:55am

Hello,
I have a few apps that I use in the portableapps platform so that I have a common launcher for the apps. Because these apps were not installed via portableapps platform and they my own apps, I have stored it all under a folder.

After doing that I am no longer able to find the launchers on portableapp list neither it returns any search results.

AppList for server & client

Submitted by Georgiy on December 28, 2016 - 7:03am

Hello!

Could you please make application lists for server and client in this way:
1) Server have a list of application with all needed information about them
2) Client have it's own list of application from last synchronization with server
3) Client have his unique list of installed applications
4) Client loads newer list of applications, or uses the old one - from last synchronization
5) Client compares both his lists to know what he can update or install

Installer deleting "desktop.ini" file

I'm using folder customization for faster folder visual location, so I dedicate "appicon.ico" to be folder icon for every "AppNamePortable" folder.
In that folder windows creates "desktop.ini" file with "hidden" and "system" attributes, but it is deleted by installer whenever I update application.
It is not deleted if in "installer.ini" is statement:

[FilesToPreserve]
File1=desktop.ini

Additional Directory for Keeping Apps

Submitted by devangbhatt on December 16, 2016 - 4:51am

Hello,

Does Portable Apps Platform, scan additional directory / directories for other portable apps?

I have a few non open source apps like CCleanerPortable, etc. These apps are not updated by the portable apps updater and I have to manually update them from time to time. Some apps like WSCCPortable update them selves from the app itself. And some tools are single exe like Microsoft Spy++, WiFi2Hotspot, WMI Explorer etc.

I would like to keep them in separate directories for maintenance purposes.

One Drive 4 Business illegal file name

Submitted by galgier on December 13, 2016 - 3:46pm

I recently installed Portable apps to my DropBox folder. This has worked well. However, I then decided that this was a waste of space that I was paying for and there is lots of space in my employer supplied OneDrive for Business folder. I have now copied everything over (drag-and-drop) and it is syncing. Unfortunately, I get the error that OD4B does not like the file name "Default%20Settings" in the folder "PortableApps/KittyPortable/Data/Sessions". I assume the problem is the % in the name.

Adding Other Apps not working

The instruction here is not working: https://portableapps.com/support/platform#addingotherapps

See screenshot here: http://imgur.com/a/6ZmVp -> apps are where they are supposed to be, as instructed above, but how ever much I select "Apps | Refresh App Icons", the apps do not appear. Restarting PortableApps and booting don't help either.
