Allow Menu to Explore Elsewhere

"Customization of the folders' (Documents, etc) name, icon and location to open..." is "Confirmed Coming In An Upcoming Release"
However I need it now as I am transitioning friends and family from ASuite which has this facility.
So I have knocked up a little app in a compiled NSIS Script which takes the required folder from an INI file and calls Explorer.
Download it from here to give it a try:

Exclude any Windows relations/user folders

I'm still using Windows XP on my 2 machines, so my user folder location is:
C:\Documents and Settings\USER-NAME\Application Data

Correct me if I am wrong, but with my Portable-Apps Platform installed and being
ran from a USB Flash Drive, each time I plug it in and run it, doesn't it make and
use a folder inside my Windows/USER directory, such as I stated above ?

If it does not, then disregard this entire post, with apologies.

[Fixed] Check for updates doesn't find update

Submitted by chris78 on May 21, 2017 - 6:39am

Hi,
I'm currently running Firefox 53.0.2 Rev2. Firefox 53.0.3 was released on May 19:
https://portableapps.com/news/2017-05-19--firefox-portable-53.0.3-released

But I'm not prompted to update when I start up the Platform (even though the corresponding advanced option is checked) or when I manually check for updates.

What's going on?
Chris

Sorting problem

Hye,

When plugging my portableapps key this morning, I run into a little bug.

When trying to look at smallest update, I saw that it's sorted in a strange way. Instead of sorting from smallest to highest, it's sorted from smallest to highest in each number sized. 1Mo to 1Go for example and then 2Mo to 2Go.... See the screenshot linked in this message.

Internal backup – instead of "max compression" use 7z?

Submitted by johanponken on April 23, 2017 - 6:31am

I just found the function "Backup", great!
It really should be promoted!

But whynot just maybe make auto 7z if max?
I mean the max in itself doesn't do anything really for size.
Or recommend 7z instead, as it's actually less slow than max while much better compression!

I tried it with "App Data" (as the exe:s I can get anytime).
My data is 99.9% ThunderBird mails, so YMMV.
System: i7-2600-3.40GHz, 8G RAM, 64b W7.

Start Automatically when windows starts - is there a repair option for this feature?

Submitted by zarraza on April 21, 2017 - 4:10pm

I recently blew my hard drive away while retaining all my data (thank you windows 10, this is a GREAT feature) however, my portable apps no longer starts when windows starts up - i have looked at the options and advanced settings and can't seem to find a way to repair this without adding to the actual startup folder - is that the only fix? or is there a way to "repair" this "install" on my local drive?
or will a simple "reinstall" of the suite fix this? I don't want to overwrite anything else.
