Platform Checks for New Apps Every Log On

Submitted by KrazyCreeperKid on November 22, 2016 - 1:02am

I use the PortableApps.com Platform mainly to use fonts without Administrator privileges, as well as a few minor games. As this is the only use for me, I have no use for getting new apps most of the time. However, the Platform asks me about new apps every startup. Is there any way to disable the process and only ask about new apps when I tell it to? Pardon

Thanks

Platform takes long time to load

Is it normal for the platform to take about 20-30 seconds to load each time? The UI comes right up, but it appears to be scanning for the apps for about 20-30 seconds.

I have one of the fastest USB drives out there and am loading it on a USB 3.0 port, so I really don't think the issues with with the storage device. Is this normal?

Sudden Platform Problem

Submitted by bobyorke on November 10, 2016 - 5:29am

Hi all,

I've been using PortableApps on a portable hard drive (USB connected) for years and never had a problem before. Today, I restarted my PC and clicked my PortableApps 'start' shortcut to find that my usual PortableApps menu had turned flat green with lots of 'lblAppButton02, lblAppButton02, and so on instead of my app entries.

I tried to (re)install the latest version but the install fails with:

Error opening file for writing:
G:\PortableApps\PortableApps.com\PortableAppsPlatform.exe
Click abort to stop ..... etc.

Installer LOOP

Hello, I try and install PortableApps and it just goes to install loop, which means that I walk in the loop, and do not get any "start program" at all.

There are some who feel like and try and help me?

Start.exe - What is it? Necessary? My PA is working without it.

Hi everyone. I've known about portable apps for a long time, but I'm just starting to use them. (They're great!) If my questions seem dumb or naive, please forgive them. I semi-retired from sofware engineering 15 yrs ago (after 30 years professional development), and I have some rust, but the bulb it still medium bright.
