Location of exe file

Submitted by PortableUser2009 on January 31, 2014 - 1:56pm

Hi John,

I have a liitle question.

To launch a portable app requiring java I created an exe file that lauches the app using jPortableLauncher. If I copy the exe to the main app folder under the PortableApps folder it gets recognized by the platform and can be started properly.

To improve the app structure I would appreciate to locate the exe file in a sub folder like app\launcher\exe because it is not part of the initial application and my exe file will be effected by an later update if I keep it in the main folder.

Some but not all apps unable to access web

Submitted by petergrainge on January 22, 2014 - 2:30pm

Firefox and Thunderbird can both access the web from my external USB hard disk.
FileZilla, Quite RSS, GreatNews, Opera and Skype all fail. If I run Skype from the internal hard disk it works fine. I uninstalled Skype and installed a new version. No change.
Does anyone have an idea as to where I should start looking please?
If I have posted in the wrong forum, please advise where I should ask.

windows 8.1 error when running apps non-elevated

Submitted by skroslak on December 26, 2013 - 5:22pm

hi,

I'm using portableapps platform for many years now, without any blocker errors so far, but since I upgraded to Win 8.1 64-bit (or maybe it is also related to some other change), I can't run some of the apps as non-elevated user. It is also valid for PortableApps platform itself.

see, when I try to run PortableApps platform by double-clicking on Start.exe , I'll get:

when I right-click and choose "as administrator" it runs ok.

Feature suggestion: Integration with Windows Start menu

Submitted by Troberg on December 26, 2013 - 4:48pm

One really nice feature would be if the PA menu could integrate with the Windows Start menu, so that items on the host Windows Start menu would appear in PA as well.

Why? Well, mostly to save the hassle of having two menus. This way, I could use only one menu, PA.

Probably, as the Windows menu is not neatly organized (and that's a very polite way of saying that the default organization is a horrible mess), it would be best to just put it under it's own sub-item.

Close AutoStarted App on PortableApps.com bar close action?

Submitted by samdev on December 10, 2013 - 5:17pm

Hi,
I use PortableApps for a while and use the App auto start in several ones but whenever I want to close the platform and remove the pen drive I need to manually close all running apps.

Is there any way to close an App (at least for the ones set to be automatically started) when we close PortableApp "bar"?

Have you consider it? I would say it makes sense to have a configuration for it.

Cheers,
Sam

Install multiple apps from local directory

Submitted by JB770 on December 10, 2013 - 5:16pm

Using the PortableApps Platform (current version is 11.2) I would like to be able to use the [Apps -> Install a New App] menu to select a file **directory** and have the Platform build a list of the PAF files in that directory into a checkbox list of multiple apps like the one created by the [Apps -> Get More Apps... -> By Title] menu.

Does this feature exist and/or would you consider adding it?

FoxitReaderPortable

Submitted by LaszloV on December 10, 2013 - 7:46am

Hi,

I use Foxit Reader Portable a lot, from both, PC and flash drive. The user signature created from file or clipboard always disappears when the app is closed. On new start the signature must be re-created. Can someone help as to how to overcom this problem? Which directory the signature pdf should be placed? Is there any menu item or .ini file string to change to prevent loss of signature from the menu ribbon?
Thanks
Laszlo

PA, manual update checker, always reports my apps are up to date , regardless how far behind they are.

Submitted by bkjr on December 5, 2013 - 7:25pm

I use the PA apps FireBird(FB) and FileZilla(FZ) mostly, and a few other PAs.

I knew the FB and FZ were a bit behind, and wanted to use the PA platform software / manager to mange updates.
But any time I asked it to check if any apps needed updates, always reported that they were all up to date.

My FB PA was at 17.x , the latest release was 24.x ,,, (didn't realize my FB PA was that far behind).

My FZ PS was 3.7.1, latest 3.7.3 ,,,

I don't have the automatic update checker turned on..

Shared Folder over the network

Submitted by jkp042009 on December 4, 2013 - 7:03pm

I have loaded the portable apps platform in a folder and shared that folder with the rest of the network. It has read write access permissions but its not loading when I access that shared folder. I am getting error: Invalid Floating point operation. The icon loads in the tray but it wont access the programs. I know it says its cloud usable but i wasn't sure if it was shareable.
