Proxy Work on PortableApps.com Platform 12.0 Beta 3/3.1

It seems that the proxy settings are still not working properly in the new 12.0 Beta 3/3.1/3.2 releases. In the current release, it's been discovered that the /CONNECTION= is being set to PROXY instead of Proxy, so that's going to be fixed in Beta 3.3/4. But it's still not working, so I'm setting up this new thread to keep track of things. I've moved the relevant comments over here as well.

PortableApps.com Menu Framework

Submitted by behofmann on May 14, 2014 - 10:24am

Hello,

The PortableApps platform has been a great asset to my development environment. I have it installed on a USB 3.0 Solid State Flash Drive and USB 3.0 Toshiba Hard Drive.

When using the PortableApps platform on my hard drive, it periodically disconnects and causes all open applications to hang forcing a reboot. Is there some setting or anomaly in the PortableApps platform or a Windows OS setting to keep the PortableApps platform from disconnecting?

Desktop Icons

Submitted by Chaos_Therum on May 12, 2014 - 12:04am

A setting that allows you to have the host computers desktop be stored somewhere else or hidden somehow. And then you would have a portable apps desktop where anything you added to the desktop would be saved on the portable apps drive. It would be really convenient to have the same desktop everywhere. This could be integrated quite nicely with the portableapps wallpapers. So the desktop would be the same.

Deeper Sub-Folders

Submitted by Chaos_Therum on May 11, 2014 - 11:59pm

I would really love to be able to create sub folders under the main categories for example something like.

Internet
--Web Browsers
----Firefox
--Communication
----Thunderbird
--Downloading
----Qbittorrent
etc.

I think that it would really help people in organizing all of their apps.

All apps fail to update

Submitted by the_coryb on May 8, 2014 - 9:43am

Hello,

For the last few months whenever I try to update my apps they fail. Every one I get this message: "The ProtableApps.com website is temporarily inaccessible due to maintenance and the app can not be updated. Please try again later. (File: [appname]_[version]_English.Paf.exe)." Which is an understandable error if it hadn't been this way for months. Anyone know what the problem might be?

Does the PortableApps Platform conduct any internal checks on the files it downloads?

Submitted by lindatess on May 6, 2014 - 7:46am

I came across this forum post, https://portableapps.com/node/18388, about using the digital signature to check if a file has been downloaded correctly.

I will be travelling to a country that is known to seed incorrect files for known encryption products and browsers. i.e. If you try to download EFF's TOR, you will get a fake version of tor that will install malware instead. This is why there are PGP signatures on the website along with the downloaded files.

my review about papps

Submitted by Alceste on April 29, 2014 - 10:41pm

- peerblock is not working from c:/program files, such as libre office

good to know BEFORE installing papps.

- papps is often failing to connect application list from the website (no logic reason)

- file association is not working

- no way to start papps with windows

all theses things were promised by papps, so if there is no update to fix it ill just go back to framakey.

Is it possible to skip or exclude a PortableApp from being updated?

Submitted by jxf11 on April 29, 2014 - 6:38pm

I have a portable app, Firefox 28, that I don't want to get updated anymore.

I do not want to change it's path because that would require making adjustments in other apps and the registry to get http/https/url links to open correctly.

Can the PortableApps updater skip an app?

Thanks

Portable Fonts not working

Submitted by jarhead2000 on April 28, 2014 - 7:12pm

After downloading portable apps platfrom to kingston 8gb flash drive, i put a couple of otf and ttf format fonts onto the platfrom's font directory folder inside the Portableapps.com/data/font directory. However, after launching libreoffice from my flash drive, the new fonts did not appear in the fonts list. After a couple of hours, i tried again with no luck. The fonts don't appear on any other programs either. Please tell me how to fix this problem
