write protecting autorun.inf

Submitted by ShanghaiSlave on September 18, 2013 - 6:50am

currently, two of my flash drives have Panda USB Vaccine treated autoruns that are completely untouchable as a solution. but this makes renaming both drives impossible for some reason.

so to summarize, my questions are:

* Why do the treated autorun prevent renaming the drive?
* is it possible to have PortableApps generate its autorun and lock the generated autorun from further editing/deletion to protect it from malware hijacks?

Unable to get platform to update apps

Submitted by flash3d8 on September 13, 2013 - 2:20pm

I've tried everything I can to get the platform to update apps with it's updater tool. It says there are no updates available when there are, and just to be sure, I have manually set back the version of an app. It seems to be connecting to the internet successfully because it is able to browse the app directory for installing news apps, and can refill the update.ini file if I have blanked it. I've tried:

* Disabling my AV.
* Reinstalling.
* Setting back the version of an app in the appinfo.ini file
* Switching to the v12 Beta 2.

I'm on Windows 7 64 bit.

autorun.inf suspicious file?

Submitted by solid_ice8 on September 12, 2013 - 6:53pm

I use to have PortableApps.com v10 and it never had any problems. I formatted my USB today (had a lot of junk files) and decided to re-download PortableApps.

After installing, McShield 2 picked up autorun.inf as a suspicious file and automatically renamed it to autorun.inf.vir.

Has autorun.inf been modified since then?
I find it hard to believe that this would somehow have contain a virus.

Or is it because my pc may be infected?

Edit: Closed McShield 2 so it wouldn't block it for VirusTotal Scan.

Updater help please

Submitted by RogerL on September 8, 2013 - 5:29am

My master set of PortableApps are on my USB Flash Drive and I keep a copy on the D drive in my computer for convenience and a backup copy on a NAS drive.

When we get the "Ability to save installers for later use" I will repeat the updates on the 2 copies.

Until then I would like to be able to call a synch program with only the PortableApps directories that have been updated.

Is there a way to know which apps have been successfully updated?

[Closed] 12b2 killing explorer.exe shell

Submitted by keithc on August 21, 2013 - 5:29am

A good proportion of the time that I start or load the platform, the explorer.exe Windows shell process stops working. As in, desktop icons disappear, and the desktop stops responding to mouse clicks. I can kill the process and start a new one and all is fine again. I haven't been able to pin down exact circumstances why this happens sometimes but not others. What steps should I take to help find what is causing the issue?

I did a search, but found nothing.

BTW, the "Known Issues" link on the platform support page is dead.

Problem:
--------
1. Installed 11.2 fresh on a new drive
2. After install is complete, it prompts for update to 12.0 beta 2

3. Update completes to 12b2 and then autoupdate fails silently (with appropriate switch it throws error)

4. Manually checking for update results in the same error

Environment:
------------
1. No firewall (software or hardware - software firewall was configured with full access for this application but was disabled for the testing)

[11.2] No automatic updates

Since a while, despite the option "Check for updates - On platform startup" is activated, Portable Apps never checks for updates although there are updates available.

Doing the check manually, the available updates are shown and can be installed without problems
