PortableApps.com Platform

Hey there,

happy holiday weekend, for those who are from US.

Recently I have encountered a following problem: when I try to lauch portableapps.exe I get this: http://i.1dl.us/HWD.jpg

the machine is running Win7. I can launch the apps going to their respective folders.

any ideas?

Downloaded 12B2 to see how the platform looked, but couldn't see file associations anywhere. Two questions Are File Associations in this beta release? (b) If they are, how are they activated?

I have a question regarding the automatic update feature, when it was introduced I wondered where the install packages were saved and I found they were being saved in the default temporary folder, and deleted after the update was finished.

im using portable apps behind a proxy server.

sometimes the server wants authentification, however, the PA updater wich wants to download software updates stores the proxy headers as successful downloads.

Even when going online without proxy, it wont download the software package anymore, thinking it had already downloaded them all.
So the updater wont update anymore

Running W7 professional. I can run apps from the PortableApps.com folder on my USB thumbdrive but when I try to run them using the platform, the platform minimizes and the app does not appear. When I check E:\PortableApps\PortableApps.com\Data\PortableAppsMenu, the [TimesRun] counter updates but nothing ever opens. This is independent of which app I select.

Everything worked fine when I tried it on my officemate's XP laptop.

have a complete portable apps setup on the laptops HDD, as well as on my USB stick - this way i can always have the very same setup in both places, well syncronized.

i also found quite a few portable progs that work well directly off the HDD, maybe a bit slower, but with less problems and overhead than 'installed' versions.

what i have NOT succeded: i want the platform to autostart with windows, so it is there and ready after booting. i have tried many systems, it actually shows up in my autostart folder - but it does not start!

anybody ever tried the same and managed it properly?

PortableApps.comLauncherGenerator.exe reports v1.0.0.0 even though it's actually v2.2.0.0.

This is unlike PortableApps.comInstaller.exe which reports the correct version.

It makes it hard to check whether I have the newest version.

I tried to download the libreoffice update through the PortableApps update and it keeps failing.
I also went to the PA website and tried the link there: "http://mirror.nexcess.net/tdf/libreoffice/portable/4.1.3/LibreOfficePort..."

I did a search but couldn't find any references to this.

The PA updater fails/Faults with a download error and Firefox just stops the download at 39.8Mb. I tried both the
I was able to reproduce on 2 different computers and 2 different networks, in fact I could not get it to work at all, but both were running win 7x64.

There is boost::locale library for C++, not widely used, but...

setting env. variable LC_CTYPE or LC_ALL or LANG could extend PortableApps language settings to whole applications, not launchers only.
Please consider that idea.

Several the most important PortableApps (Firefox, UltraEdit, etc) I have defined as shortcuts and pinned to TaskBar.
Commonly used launcher pattern ignores Minimized, Maximized, Normal shortcut settings - launcher is not fully transparent.
To reproduce:
create shortcut to FireFoxPortable.exe
Modify properties: set Start Maximized
Execute shortcut.
FireFox window is not maximized.
